[iPhone] Buy and sell clothes with Threadflip, a gorgeously designed mobile app

mzl.eippwrnk.320x480-75I’ll admit, I’m not entirely sure how our site’s viewership breaks down by gender. But if I had to hazard a guess, I’d say we have more male readers than female ones. But no matter what your gender is, everyone loves to save money. If you have a pile of clothes you’re looking to sell (or just love to shop for used clothes to get a deal on discount fashions), you should check out Threadflip, a beautifully-designed app.

What is it and what does it do

Main Functionality

Threadflip is an app for buying and selling designer clothing. Featuring designs from top brands, this app lets you buy and sell right from your phone. The app also tracks things like your size in shirts, dresses, and shoes.

As of right now, Threadflip only sells women’s clothes, guys are out of luck. But fellas, don’t tune out just yet: just because Threadflip doesn’t sell clothes and accessories for men doesn’t mean guys shouldn’t check it out, too. In fact, there are a couple of good reasons that Threadflip appeals to men and women alike.

Pros

  • Good array of great-looking fashion at deep discounts
  • Offers “an intuitive interface that’s designed to make converting closet clutter into cash a cinch”
  • Easier to list items on the go than with using eBay’s app, and with a community of people who are more committed to fashion

Cons

  • Threadflip doesn’t allow the sale of menswear (and from what I’ve seen of their site, they don’t have plans to in the future, which is a bummer: guys like to look good, too!)
  • Often takes a long time to load new content

Discussion

threadflip_2It’s pretty easy to see why women would be attracted to Threadflip. It’s beautifully designed, has a great assortment of clothes, and is a great way to save money. The real question is, why would guys want to check out a clothes-selling app that doesn’t sell menswear?

Well, for starters, it’s a good way to go shopping for your girlfriend without getting stressed out. Install the app on your phone, and let her select her sizes. With that info, a guy can use Threadflip to shop for his wife or girlfriend, and never worry about accidentally insulting her by purchasing something that’s too big or too small.

Plus, guys can avoid being stressed out in a big mall or snooty department store with condescending clerks: who’d want to deal with all that, when you could shop from the couch? A lot of guys I know want to buy clothing as a present for their ladies, but they are too afraid of buying the wrong size, or having to deal with a pushy salesperson: this app solves that problem entirely.

That’s not to say that Threadflip doesn’t have other problems. While it does have a staggeringly lovely interface that is an absolute dream to browse through, the app can take an unconscionably long time to load. Even when I had a strong Wi-Fi connection, loading new content as I scrolled down, or loading a fresh tab entirely, would take over 30 seconds in some cases…or not load at all.

Conclusion and download link

As Manik Singh, Threadflip founder and CEO, puts it: “With quick and easy access to your curated listings, orders, shopping cart, favorites and purchase history, the Threadflip app is a streamlined, high-utility extension of the online Threadflip experience.” In short: if you like shopping for women’s wear for yourself or for your lady love, this beautifully designed app is worth checking out…even if it doesn’t always load well.
