One of the biggest problems plaguing Android users is the lack of timely Android updates. Indeed, Android 4.x (Ice Cream Sandwich and Jelly Bean) has been out for over a year and many Android devices are still on Gingerbread. Wondering if your Samsung smartphone and/or tablet will receive an update to a newer version of Android? A list of updates for Samsung devices leaked by an “insider” helps shed some light on which smartphones/tablets are getting what.

According to SamMobile, the following Samsung devices will be updated by Samsung to Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean in the near future:

  • GT-I9080 – Galaxy Grand
  • GT-I9082 – Galaxy Grand DUOS
  • GT-I8160 – Galaxy Ace 2
  • GT-I8190 – Galaxy S III mini
  • GT-I8350 – Galaxy Beam
  • GT-I8730 – Galaxy Express
  • GT-I9070 – Galaxy S Advance
  • GT-I9100 – Galaxy S II
  • GT-I9105 – Galaxy S II Plus
  • GT-I9260 – Galaxy Premier
  • GT-N7000 – Galaxy Note
  • GT-S6310 – Galaxy Young
  • GT-S6312 – Galaxy Young DUOS
  • GT-S6810 – Galaxy Fame
  • GT-S7710 – Galaxy X Cover 2

The following Samsung devices will receive an update to Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, which has not yet been revealed by Google but is expected to be announced at Google I/O this May:

  • GT-I9300 – Galaxy S III
  • GT-I9305 – Galaxy S III LTE
  • GT-I9500 – Galaxy S4
  • GT-I9505 – Galaxy S4 LTE
  • GT-N5100 – Galaxy Note 8.0
  • GT-N5105 – Galaxy Note 8.0 LTE
  • GT-N5110 – Galaxy Note 8.0 Wi-Fi
  • GT-N7100 – Galaxy Note II
  • GT-N7105 – Galaxy Note II LTE
  • GT-N8000 – Galaxy Note 10.1
  • GT-N8005 – Galaxy Note 10.1 LTE
  • GT-N8010 – Galaxy Note 10.1 Wi-Fi

Take note this list is unofficial, and may change at any time. However, this list is said to be “confirmed” so these are likely the devices to receive Android updates in the near future… which also means if you own any other Samsung Android device, you are likely out of luck when it comes to official Android updates.

The catch here is Samsung has not confirmed the timeline for the updates. So while these updates are highly likely to come, we don’t know if they will arrive in June 2013, December 2013, or 2014. Hopefully no later than 2014, but you never know.
