E3 game spotlight — Ryse: Son of Rome

Ryse Son of Rome

Ryse: Son of Rome looks to be an action packed hack and slash title following Roman soldiers through the many atrocities of war. The name is pretty much a clear cut indication of what the game is about, although I’m not entirely sure why Ryse is spelled with a “y” instead of an “i”.

System: Xbox One

At E3, Microsoft actually unveiled a lot of games that are coming to the next iteration of their Xbox console. Many of the games look pretty awesome, some more than others. One such game that had a phenomenal showing during Microsoft’s press conference was this little gem.

Aside from the gorgeous jaw-dropping visuals, it looks like the game is going to be bogged down with quite a few quicktime events. If you’re not all that into video games, a quicktime event is when you are encouraged to mash buttons or respond in a certain amount of time to advance a cutscene. Needless to say, a lot of gamers and reviewers dislike quicktime events because they seem to take away from the immersion.

To get a better idea of how Ryse will play, check out the rather lengthy promo video I’ve included below. You won’t regret watching it either, the video is full of seven and a half minutes of brutal action.

While no one can actually gauge how great a game is going to be by a promo video like that and a few minutes of a press conference, you can still form a pretty solid opinion based on what you do see. My opinion, is that Ryse is going to be pretty awesome.

What do you think of Ryse? Is it a title that you’re looking forward to come release time? Are there any other games you saw revealed at E3 that you would much rather own?
