[Android] Climatip is a beautiful and minimal weather app that tells you what is safe to wear outside

Wouldn’t it be great if instead of just throwing out the weather, your phone could tell you what to wear? I already know some of you are probably looking at your screen in confusion right now, wondering what the hell I’m talking about, so I’ll spell it out for you. In the morning, generally you wake up and either look out the window or go outside to see if the weather is hot or cold. In the summer you don’t do this all the time, of course, but when fall comes and the colder season is around- I’m sure you do it all the time. Climatip is a very minimal weather app that tells you the local climate through a simple icon, background color and dress tip.
Why do you need a weather forecast, an advanced animation and a sophisticated interface for weather updates? Rocktaps, the developers behind Climatip believe you don’t need any of those things. Climatap is an attractive and minimal application that offers you weather updates in a very different way. According to the developers, “a color, an icon and a short tip about clothes is all you need to know to wear the perfect outfit for the day.”
Climatip is a very simple and straightforward application. There’s absolutely nothing to configure, no location settings to enter and no accounts to login to. That’s a good thing though, especially in a world where everything is making a move to be social.
Right when you load up the application it will take you through a quick, three-frame tutorial that essentially tells you everything you need to know. What do you need to know exactly? The combination of a background color, weather icon and text tip all tell you what you should wear. In addition, Climatip changes background colors depending on the outside temperature. That’s it really, there’s nothing else to the app.
After you click ‘start’ the application will query local weather and then provide your first recommendation. It’s remarkably simple, yet incredibly efficient. All the application tells you is the outside weather through an icon, and the temperature with a background color. Then it also provides a tip for what you should wear like ‘a baseball cap would be useful.’ For example, on my device the background color was red to signify that it was hot outside.
Unfortunately, there’s no widget support at this time. I was definitely sad to find this out because I would love to place a widget on my homescreen that offered me Climatip notifications without having to open the app.
Also, it would be nice to see future forecasts for later in the day or perhaps even for later in the week. Just because the app tells me it’s hot and sunny out now doesn’t mean it won’t rain later, especially here in Florida where it rains almost daily.
One further observation that I made, is that this app hasn’t been updated since December, 2012 as of the time of writing. That means, either the developer moved on to support other apps or they are just taking really long time to update it. For some folks, that would be a turn off and that’s why I mentioned it.
For reference, Climatip uses 9MB of RAM while running.
Climatip is a gorgeous and remarkably minimal weather application for Android that tells you one thing and one thing exactly — what to wear for your trek outside. The UI is incredibly minimal and there are absolutely no options or settings to configure, which makes the app very easy to use. Unfortunately, there’s no widget support nor are there future forecasts. It only tells you the current weather conditions, and what clothes you should wear. Furthermore, the app hasn’t been updated by the developers in some time. Still, it’s a very interesting way to get your local weather updates. Check it out if you want this type of functionality.
