19-year-old spends 2,000 hours creating massive video game mod as part of a job application

Bethesda Game Studios is known for making some massive games. From Fallout 3 to the most recent Elder Scrolls game, Skyrim, the developer’s pedigree for making large, living worlds in video games is unquestioned. So when Alexander J. Velicky decided to submit an application to work at Bethesda, he created an epic mod that should make the developers (or anyone) proud.

Velicky’s Skyrim mod, Falskaar, is huge. The landmass that it adds is 1/3 of the original game’s environment, which is also huge. It also adds over 20 hours of content to the game, including: new characters, quests, music, and items. And speaking of characters, they’re all voiced by by a cast of 30 semi-professional and professional voice actors.

At 19, Velicky shows that he already has a pretty good understanding of how to get into the video game industry:

“The best way to show Bethesda Game Studios that I want a job there and should be hired is to create content that meets the standards of their incredible development team.”
