Microsoft Windows 8.1 is reportedly scheduled to launch this October. The company is currently testing near-final versions of the OS, with the finalized version to be completed by the end of the month.¬†Despite being finalized, Microsoft intends to release Windows 8.1 a whole two months later to give its partners and other PC manufacturers time to do testing and finalize their drivers. Or at least that is what ZDNet is reporting — we are yet to hear it officially from the horse’s mouth. But it should be mentioned Microsoft has announced they will deliver Windows 8.1 RTM to OEMs by the end of August, so this rumor likely has a lot of weight.

Windows 8.1 will bring a number of improvements to Windows 8 including more customization options, improvements to multitasking, and a new search engine powered by Bing that includes richer search results. 7 and 8-inch devices are also expected to be released alongside Windows 8.1.
