Manga generator scans you into your own comic book

Do you enjoy Japanese manga (aka comics)? If you could, would you create one by yourself? Well, if the answer to both questions is yes, then you are in luck. The developers at the Shirai Lab at the Kanagawa Institute of Technology came up with Manga Generator which allows you to write your own manga. You can either start your own story by using “the Kinect sensor and custom software algorithms that determine your body positions” or you can feature yourself in a pre-written story. When you are done, you can even print out your manga.

Although this Manga Generator is pretty cool and technologically advanced, the developers feel that they can do more and better. One of them said:

“The real-time manga shader still has room for improvement, so we’re working to enhance the image quality. Then, there’s the issue of layout. We’ve made great progress on layout with text in the right places, and interactive stories. Some aspects of this research can be applied to e-books and interactive e-books.”

Although we are told that we can create our own story, it still isn’t clear how much control we have over stories or scripts. Still, it is pretty interesting. I, personally, wouldn’t get one for myself as I do not write manga for living nor am I interested in manga, but I could see a few manga writers adopting this technology when it becomes available in the future. The below video shows how the device works.

What do you guys think? Would you get one for yourself? Let us know in the comment section below.
