Uji Shower forces you to take shorter showers

We’re not sure about you guys, but we enjoy taking a shower multiple times on a daily basis. However, sometimes we spend a little bit too long getting our bodies soaking wet from the cool sizzling water, which is just a waste and additional cost on the bill at the end of the month.

That’s the reasoning behind the Uji Shower, a showerhead designed to cut down on how long you stay under the pipe. This piece of hardware technology has a LED light built in along with a timer in the showerhead. It begins with a blue glow then the shower is on, and later drifts down to a red glow when the timer slowly approaches the 7-minute mark. After 7-minutes, Uji Shower automatically shuts off the water, saving you time and money.

Check out the video below of the Uji Shower:

According to one of Uji’s co-creator, Brett Andler:

“It encourages [people] to take shorter and more energy efficient showers. By letting people become aware of how long they’re in the shower, we’ve actually been able to cut shower time by 12 percent.”

It’s an interesting piece of kit that only cost $50, which is not much for what the Uji Shower claims it can do. However, is it needed? Can’t we just time ourselves in the shower and finish up just on time? Of course not silly, we’re humans and we can’t do any better, even if we tried.

Now, how about designing something that restrains us from using the Internet 24 hours per day, that would be nice.
