BlackBerry aiming to sell assets by November, Lenovo in the runnings

With Nokia’s mobile division swallowed up whole by Microsoft for a mighty $7.2 billion , the big question on everyone’s lips is who is next? It now seems that question has been answered. According to the Wall Street Journal, BlackBerry is looking to complete asset sales by November, so mark that date on your calendar ladies and gentlemen, as another one aims to bite the dust.
The Canadian company has already held preliminary chitchat with potential bidders for different sections of the company. Furthermore, it is understood sales process is expected to commence very soon, however, it is by no means certain anything might happen come November, but BlackBerry board of directors want to move swiftly.
Interested bidders include Bain Capital, Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, and popular Chinese company, Lenovo. Past reports placed Microsoft in the driver’s seat to acquire BlackBerry, but that is now out of the question since the software giant took Nokia’s mobile division under its arms. Any move by Microsoft towards BlackBerry would be met by scrutiny and even a lawsuit.
BlackBerry has struggled as of late to retain its position in the smartphone market. The launch of BlackBerry 10 and several devices running the new operating system failed to garner interest from consumers, and as such, the company is at the position where it has to sell assets to stay afloat.
