200,000 people have a death wish, sign up for one-way trip to Mars — literallySeptember 13, 2013 11 Email article | Print article
It looks like many people are tired of life on earth and I don’t blame them. With all kinds of pollutions and natural disasters, life on earth is getting harder day by day, which is why I am not surprised to hear over 200,000 people signed up for the private Mars One mission.
Oh who am I kidding. I’m sure post of these people just wanted to say “first” once they landed on the red planet.
A selection committee for the Mars On mission will select between 24 to 40 people to participate a seven-year training program starting in 2015, so most of these astronaut hopefuls won’t make it. The company even has plans to launch a TV show to choose the participants, because, you know, today’s reality TV shows aren’t good enough.
Once the training is complete, Mars One will work with SpaceX to send “the prospective Martian settlers” to Mars in teams of four, beginning in 2023. We just hope they will realize that it’d be nearly impossible for them to get a fresh bottle of beer on Mars or to catch up on their favourite TV shows.
