[Android] Quickoffice is a free DOC, XLS, and PPT editor and viewer [iOS]

At long last, after the long wait, Quickoffice is finally free for all Android and iOS users . It used to have both free (viewer only) and paid (viewer + editor) versions, but now you can download its full version without even paying a dime. Let’s see if it is worth a download.
Since Quickoffice is now an integral part of Google Drive, you will need an active Google account to get this app running on your Android device. This also means that you will get at least 15GB of free storage courtesy of Google Drive. With this app, you can use your tablet or mobile phone to create, manage, edit and view your documents, spreadsheets and presentations. You can also use this app to open and view your PDF files such as your e-books and product catalogues. That’s not all. This app also has a built-in sharing tool so you can directly share or send your files via Bluetooth or Gmail.
Take note Quickoffice is available on both Android and iOS (iPhone/iPad). We specifically reviewed the Android version.
Quickoffice for Android has its pros and cons. On a positive note, it is pretty stable and since it is already integrated to Google Drive, you’ll be able make the most out of its 15GB free storage. That is already more than enough especially if you are just dealing with MS Office documents.
What is good about this app is that it has a neat and well-designed UI. It runs smoothly so you don’t have to worry about it crashing while you are in the middle of creating a document. Besides, if you choose to save your documents into the cloud, then it will automatically save your work in your Google Drive storage so you can easily access your files on other devices. Just keep in mind that in order for you to save your files in your cloud storage, your device must be connected to the Internet. If not, then you will have to save your documents to your local storage.
Functionality wise, this app is very easy to use plus it features a familiar interface so it will be easy for you to recognize its editing tools. It’s just that it only provides the basic formatting tools for creating documents, spreadsheets and presentations. You cannot really expect it to be as advanced as the MS Office applications that you are using on your computer. You’ll basically get some options for formatting the font and paragraph plus you will also be able to insert some images and tables.
While using this app to create a document, I noticed that it’s difficult to format the inserted image in such a way that it will be placed behind or in-front of the text. In other words, you can just do the basic formatting so if you want to do even more, then you’ll have to re-edit the document on your computer. Nonetheless, this app features slick touch-based controls. It supports pinch-to-zoom plus you can easily resize the images that you’ve inserted. It also has a built-in spell checker.
All in all, I could say that Quickoffice does a good job. It’s a pretty reliable application that you can use whenever you want especially if you aren’t near your computer. Still, I do not recommend that you use this as your primary document processor because it lacks a lot of formatting tools plus it cannot even check your grammar.
As a viewer, Quickoffice works fine. As an editor, it also works fine… assuming you don’t want advanced formatting functionality. It’s a good application… but there are still a lot of things that it could be done to improve it. That being said, there aren’t very many good free office documents editors on Android and iOS out there so despite its downsides, Quickoffice is still worth a try. If you find Quickoffice not to be of your liking, then you should see Kingsoft Office , another free office documents viewer and editor app.
