Google launches anti-aging company Calico, will likely cure death really soon

Google is a company that is not afraid to branch out into areas that have less to do with its core business, web services. The company’s latest foray is launching a new company called Calico, which will focus on health and anti-aging. You can bet the celebrities are going to have a field day with this, as they are more obsessed with staying young than anyone else.

Although no one has really said it out loud yet, we speculate Google wants to stop humans from dying and, to that end, Calico’s greatest work will be in the area of biotechnology. However, there aren’t explicit details on exactly what Calico will do, so there isn’t much to talk about right now in terms of what’s ahead for Calico. What we do know is that the company is headed by Art Levinson, chairman at Apple, and former CEO of another biotechnology company, GenenTech.

The following is the reaction to Calico by Apple CEO, Tim Cook:

For too many of our friends and family, life has been cut short or the quality of their life is too often lacking. Art is one of the crazy ones who thinks it doesn’t have to be this way. There is no one better suited to lead this mission and I am excited to see the results.

Despite being the head of a Google owned company, Levinson will still keep his position as Chairman at Apple, which was handed down to him after the death of Steve Jobs.

We’re curious to see what comes of this plan to stop aging, but in the same breath, we still have to wonder: where do we cross the line?
