Facebook now allows users to watch gruesome videos

If you post an image or video on Facebook of your nipples, it will be removed, however; if you do the same of a person getting their head chopped off, it is likely that video will not be removed. Yes, Facebook is the most popular and most used social network, but it has some weird policies. There was a time when Facebook chose to block gruesome images and videos, but these days the social network is walking on a different road.

Back in May of this year, Facebook was forced to address its decapitation policy after the Family Online Safety Institute complained about these videos being readily available to the Facebook community. The social network proceeded with a ban on such videos, but has chosen to allow these videos to roam free once more.

According to a BBC report, a gruesome video posted on Facebook recently with the title “Challenge: Anybody can watch this video?” was deemed as appropriate by the social network. It is clear Facebook has no option at this time to change its stance on allowing gruesome videos after the following statement made to the BBC””:

Facebook has long been a place where people turn to share their experiences, particularly when they’re connected to controversial events on the ground, such as human rights abuses, acts of terrorism and other violent events. People are sharing this video on Facebook to condemn it. If the video were being celebrated, or the actions in it encouraged, our approach would be different.

However, since some people object to graphic video of this nature, we are working to give people additional control over the content they see. This may include warning them in advance that the image they are about to see contains graphic content.

These videos could easily be viewed by children, so Facebook needs to be careful on what it deemed as appropriate. Far too many times we’ve seen children on Facebook posing as adults to swindle through restrictions, so make no mistake, they will come across these deadly acts. If this is what Facebook plans on doing, then the social network might as well allow nipples to show up.
