Facebook is getting ready to track your mouse cursor movements

If you thought that the social network giant that is Facebook knew too much about you already, then you probably won’t be happy about this latest development of Facebook looking to gather even more information about you.

Despite previous criticism over information that Facebook — and other companies, like Google — gathers, the social network believes that even more data collection will allow them to not only better personalize Facebook experience of its users, but also let advertisers serve better targeted ads — and thus make Facebook more money. According to the Wall Street Journal, Facebook’s latest endeavor into violating your privacy is tracking mouse cursor movements.

Yes, you read that correctly. Facebook is reportedly about to introduce a technology that tracks your mouse cursor movements, a method of gathering data on users that have not yet been used even by the likes of Google. It isn’t clear when or how Facebook will turn on this mouse cursor movement gathering switch, but Facebook’s chief analytics office Ken Rudin says it is just “a step away”.

How do you feel about this? Do you think that you are comfortable with the levels of intrusion Facebook is planning? Or maybe you don’t feel it is intrusive at all. Let us know in the comments below.

This is an alternative to facebook. It works like facebook, but no ads. Free for life if you join this year. You can keep ‘evolve’ in your back pocket…just in case…if you like fb at this time. I always think it’s a good idea to have a non-internet way to contact folks. My Australian fb friends who advocate for natural parenting, i.e. breastfeeding, have had their fb sites taken down. Some were able to get them back after some months, others not. Don’t keep all your eggs in one basket, as they say.

[@Anonymail] May be time??? I left over 5 years ago when their privacy settings started getting hinky and they wanted MORE personal data. Over the years when they have “changed their policies” they have hidden HOW to get your privacy back. Bunch of ________ ( insert Yosemite Same cursing here… %$#!@&*!@#$%)

[@Daniel Lovejoy] To true! I LOVED it when someone posted family pics of Zuckerburg family thanksgiving on FB and he got pissed off! Freaking hypocrite!

Hmmm… I wonder if all this might lead to MySpace having a comeback???

We have anyone smart enough on dotTech to start a site called YOUR place/space/book ?!?! Totally anonymous, share whatever you want, for ADULTS only. You don’t like someones page, to bad! Don’t look at it! Only rules: NO spamming/ links to “snake oil” type sites, terrorism, pedophilia, or other things of that “ilk”! I will only take 10% of the profits for pitching this idea. ;) C’mon Boss. Waddya say?!?!

Is there an browser add on that will simply move the mouse in a circle until whenever it’s idle? Could someone write one? If Facebook has to collect that much meaningless data from millions of people to get the few details it’s looking for, it may decide to give up. I honestly can’t imagine what they hope to get out of it, other than maybe figuring out how many users are fidgity and how many have mouscular control issues…. They already know when you click, why do they need more than that?
