Firefly video game has been announced

It has just been announced that there will be a Firefly video game, called Firefly Online; it will be made by QMx Interactive, and it will initially be made for iOS and Android platforms, though it may extend to others in the future.

The game has been called a “a multi-user, social online role-playing game” by the developing studio.

“Players will take on the role of a ship captain as they hire a crew and lead missions, while trading with and competing against millions of other players like themselves,” said in the game’s announcement sheet. “Much like the crew of Serenity, the Firefly-class transport ship featured in the original show, players must do whatever it takes to survive in the Verse: find a crew, find a job and keep flying.”

Now while it would have been nice to see a full-fledged game come to platforms like the PC or gaming consoles, and there have been gripes made to this point by other news sources like Kotaku, anything that brings me back into the Firefly universe sounds like good news.

It also seems unnecessary to go into it, but for those who haven’t checked out the short-lived Firefly TV shows and the movie made afterwards, Serenity, its definitely worth the watch. The show only aired for a few months back in 2002 and was not well handled at all by those running Fox, with episode being aired out of order, but since then has gained a very large, and in some cases rabid, fan base.
