Get WinPatrol Plus for only $0.99 this Friday (January 29, 2010)!

January 25, 2010 38 Email article | Print article

Many people know – or have heard – about WinPatrol because WinPatrol is a terrific “supplement” security software that helps round out most everyone’s line of defense against scumware. What makes WinPatrol so popular is not only its usefulness, but also the fact that WinPatrol comes in two flavors: WinPatrol Free and WinPatrol Plus. WinPatrol Free, of course, is free for everyone to use. WinPatrol Plus, on the other hand, is the paid version of WinPatrol which comes with some perks not available in the free edition. If you want to know more about WinPatrol, and the differences between Free and Plus, feel free to read my article on WinPatrol.

Now the point of this article is not to tell everyone about WinPatrol. The point of this article is to inform everyone that for a very limited time span of 24 hours, on January 29, 2010 everyone will have the ability to purchase WinPatrol Plus for only $0.99 (USD)! That is to say, everyone can buy lifetime licenses of WinPatrol Plus for less than one dollar! This less-than-one-dollar license comes with lifetime-ness of the normal $29.99 license. In other words, users, who take advantage of this limited offer, will receive WinPatrol Plus updates for free for life.

This really is a great opportunity to not only give back to a generous developer, but also to grab a copy of an excellent software. Take it from me when I say WinPatrol is awesome; it is one of the first things I install on my new/reformatted computers. I highly recommend anyone, and everyone, to take advantage of this limited time offer.

More details on this promotion will be available when it goes live, but Bill – the developer – says in his blog post that he will release a coupon which must be used to reduce the price to $0.99 and each customer will be limited to one coupon Update: It seems like there won’t be a coupon – the price will be $0.99 via a regular purchase and each customer will be able to buy two; more information here. So be sure to check out WinPatrol.com this Friday (January 29, 2010) to get your very own lifetime license of WinPatrol Plus for only $0.99!

Thanks Ozzie!

Well, it’s not quite the same license. Or licensing terms, at least. The normal version is a per-user license (e.g. “all of my computers”). He says that the 99-cent version is a per-device license, and since you can only use the coupon once, that means just one computer. He did verify in the comments on his blog that the 99-cent license will work with the portable USB version, though, which is very gracious of him.

    Mr. Boss

@Onesimus Prime: I don’t think so. I think it is a single-user license that can only be used one one computer at a time but can be uninstalled/reinstalled whenever you wish.

This is from the blog post:

Can I use my 99¢ WinPatrol PLUS on multiple computers?

This experiment is meant to compare a software purchase to those purchases from the Apple App Store or Droid Market. Unlike our $29.95 license or $49.95 Family Park, this purchase is good for one computer at a time.

I’m sorry, yes, that’s what I meant. But it’s still different from the $30 license, which specifies “Single User/Multiple Computers.” Elsewhere he says of that license, “‘Can I use my activation code on both my desktop and laptop?’
Of course. You’re the customer, not your computer. You’re welcome to use a single license code on any computer you personally own and use.”
This, as opposed to the 99-cent license which, as we’ve both pointed out, is only meant to be installed on one device at a time.
Was I clearer that time? :-)

@Onesimus Prime: Oh now I see what you mean. Actually I didn’t realize the $30 license was “single user” but can be used on multiple computers at a time.

    I read on http://www.winpatrol.com/99cents.html
“Everyone who upgrades to WinPatrol PLUS on this day will receive the same 99 cents special.”

Why does it say “Everyone who upgrades” ? ?

Is it intended to exclude those who have NOT previously installed the FREE version ?

its a single computer licence compared to the normal multiple computer, but nevertheless its a great chance to get it legally!

Ok this was on his site Like our current deal the 99 cent license is valid for life. Like sales in the Apple App Store and Droid Marketplace, this license is valid for a single computer. This special off is also limited to (2) per customer hmm so does that mean we can buy two? This sounds a tad confusing.I too have a laptop and desktop

Ok I emailed WinPatrol and this is the response I got “Thank you for your support. I’m sorry for any confusion.

Normally, the $29.95 WinPatrol is good for any computer you personally own and use.

Our 99 cent experiment is designed to match the kind of license agreement of the online mobile stores where you can only use the software on one machine.

The 99 cent license is good for only one machine but we allow you to purchase two licenses. So you can make two purchases and obtain two activation codes. This limit is necessary so companies don’t try and purchase 500 copies for each machine.

Hope that helps.” So we can get 2 :^)

Thanks Ashraf!!!….It’s great to find out about something BEFORE it happens….not AFTER. Not that it’s ever happened to me (:>)

This is soooooooooooo much pressure….a countdown in case I want to edit my comment…..who woulda thunk it!!!

    I’m down to 7 minutes 8 seconds………should I change something???????….or not?????????

The suspense is killing me here…..

Now I only have five minutes and 47 seconds…..

Just when I think I’m ready to hit save……….I think….do I really really REALLY need to change anything????

This is insane……I still have 3 minutes and 45 seconds….and I still don’t know what to do with it…..

    Now it’s only 1 minute and 51 seconds….

    What can I say….it doesn’t take a whole lot to amuse me….

    If I don’t hit save soon I’ll run out of time…..47 seconds….

It might already be too lat

I’ve replaced WinPatrol with AnVir Task Manager which does the same thing as WinPatrol and a lot more. I don’t want to or need to run both.

    What do you think Ashraf?

    Morning Ashraf,
Looks good, but lately I’ve added so much complementary stuff i seem to spend most of my time making decisions about what to allow or not that just maintaining is more time consuming than using this thing.
So, if you or one of your knowledgeable readers would look at this list and let me know whether Win PatrolPluswould be a reasonable addition or replacement for something i already have, it would be ‘preciated.
    1.a-squared anti malware
    2. malwarebytes anti malware
    3. Webroot spy sweeper
    4. online armor
    5 spyware blaster
    6 Advanced system care pro
    7.winutilities
    8 glaryutilities

I only got Winutilities and glary recently and havent run them yet…not sure i need to.
Im at the point where i have overdone trying to keep it up and running…STRANGE THING but maybe i take too much advice???
    Any feedback would be ‘preciated
    thanks

@Sandeep — according to the blog on winpatrol.com, the 24 hour period starts at midnight EST (i.e. : New York time). Which is nice for those of us out west, how can get it before going to bed Thursday night.

I’ve used WinPatrol for a few years – not sure how I originally got pointed to it – and bought a full license for roughly half-price last year. It was through a site similar to dottech (something like digitalbits, maybe?? — EDIT : ok, it’s not digitalbits, that’s a DVD website… Looks like it was http://www.bitsdujour.com).

I can’t say that I’ve ever used any of the features of the PLUS version, and as I’ve done re-builds and mis-placed the key, I’ve only re-installed the straight-free version.

I will however buy another license (or two… there are conflicting reports to the limit – the website’s blog still says a limit of 1) for the 99 cents. This seems to be a really good developer to support (the free version by itself is very useful and it is the first thing I put on a new build after Avast…) and of course, I’d like to see this 99 cent experiment work as well.

    Mick :)

I wish someone do me a favor and send me a key, I need it desperately but can’t be able to pay for it from where I stay here in Africa. Any good Samaritan out there will be highly appreciated.

No offense folks, but what part of “Your special 99 cent investment today is a one-time cost, good for a single computer. No hidden fees, advertisements or unwanted toolbars” do you not understand? …’Course, depends how many payment methods you can come up with. Just use a different payment method and name for each one. Not to difficult. ;)

I paid for 5 using paypal and when paypal redirected to BillP studios website it asked for my Name and on entering it gave me just a single code. What this means????

  24. RoseD1st January 29, 2010 at 5:07 AM (comment permalink) -

My one code worked for both of mine

    24
  25. Sandeep January 29, 2010 at 5:11 AM (comment permalink) -

So this means there will be a single code issued which will work according to the purchased license.

But i just read the forum which stated that the user will be allowed to purchase two license then why i was allowed to get more than that.

Will my code work for third machine after installing in two machines????
