Spark builds open source alternative to Nest thermostat in less than a day

Spark has designed their own Nest style thermostat and it did not even take them a full day to do so.

While it certainly doesn’t look as appealing as the Nest original, all the functionality is still there. Spark’s thermostat has sensors that can capture humidity, motion, temperature and can tell when the owner of the home is back. You can also access all this information because it syncs with a website that those who own the product can check on their computer or phone.

Spark has also made the design of their product open-source, allowing others who are tech-savy to follow their design and make their own. They also illustrate just how accessible creating your own prototype can be in the 21st century.

“Your billion dollar company starts with a million dollar product, and your million dollar product starts with a hundred dollar prototype,” Spark said.
