Someone in Mexico named their child ‘Facebook’

There is actually someone in Mexico who has named their child ‘Facebook’. We learn of this development thanks to a new law in Mexico.

Mexican authorities from the state of Sonora looked at names used by Mexican couples for their children, unusual names that may cause harm to children due to their nature; they then banned names they deemed inappropriate for children. Facebook is just one of 61 names that the Mexican state of Sonora has banned after looking through it’s civil registry.

According to Cristina Ramirez, the Registry’s director, the law that bans the 61 names was put in effect to prevent bullying. “The law is very clear because it prohibits giving children names that are derogatory or that don’t have any meaning and that can lead to bullying,” Ramirez said.

Some of the other names that have been banned include Lady Di, Juan Calzon which means Juan Panties, Marciana or Martian, and there was also a boy named Circumcision, for which an English translation isn’t really necessary.

The things people can come up never ceases to amaze. And the fact that there needs to be a law to stop people from naming their children as such… says a lot about why we need contraceptives in this world.
