Hard drives are the part of your computer most prone to crashing. Crashing of hardware, in of itself, is bad. However, the death of a hard drive is even worse because the hard drive holds all your precious data. So, in that regard, O&O DriveLED is an “early-warning system” that assists you by identifying potential hard drives problems so you can backup your data, or replace the hard drive, before the catastrophe occurs. Here are the features of O&O DriveLED as per the developer:
Features at a glance
- Display of read/write access for logical volumes
- Display of current storage capacity on logical drives
- Automatic monitoring of all S.M.A.R.T. properties
- Display of current temperatures on all hard disk drives (when supported by manufacturer)
- Prognosis of remaining operational life for all hard disk drives
- Self tests run directly in Windows without the creation of a boot disk
- Warning notification of possible operational errors on all hard disk drives
- Support of all Windows-compatible storage volumes
- Support of SCSI-disk drives
An early-warning for system crashes
Although O&O DriveLED won’t let you avoid a system crash entirely, it
can let you know early enough whenever there’s trouble on the horizon.
O&O DriveLED 3 is a reliable partner that accurately tells you when it
is time to backup your important data with O&O DiskImage, or even to
replace the hard disk.S.M.A.R.T. hardware monitoring
Quietly running in the background, the new O&O DriveLED 3 permanently
monitors the status of your hard disks With the help of S.M.A.R.T.
(Self Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology), O&O DriveLED 3
analyses the health state of your hard disks and warns you in the event
of potential malfunctions.Running self- tests
Immediately after installation O&O DriveLED 3 provides you with
the ability to make an intensive analysis of all of your hard disks. Every
hard disk that supports S.M.A.R.T. is able to run self tests. Using
O&O DriveLED 3 you can start a self-test of your hard disk with only one
click of your mouse. During the tests several parameters and functions
are systematically checked, including the interface, the surface and the
mechanics, including every read head. In addition, the error log will be
analyzed and the S.M.A.R.T. system itself will be tested. If there were
no failures found, the corresponding indicator will be lit up green. If
some failures occurred, O&O DriveLED 3 will notify you. In this case, it
is recommended to backup your data.Analyze the status of your drives
In the O&O DriveLED Control Center, each drive is symbolized by a
lamp. Each of these LEDs will show you the latest status of any particular
drive. Depending on the status, the LEDs will display a different color:
- Grey – no activity to report
- Green – reading access on the partition
- Red – data is being written on the partition
- Yellow – data is being simultaneously written and read on the partition
While O&O DriveLED 3 makes it possible for you to see your hard
drive‘s built-in LEDs on your computer screen, this is just the beginning.
In addition, you now have the possibility of monitoring all of your
virtual drives, such as network drives, being able to clearly distinguish
between read-access and write-access.
Usually O&O DriveLED would cost you $29.95 (USD) but now you can get O&O DriveLED for free! The cool thing is, the freebie is O&O DriveLED 3 – the latest version of the software.

thanks ashraf
Hello,
Requested license over an hour ago with no response, is this normal?
Thanks, Gary
I’m with Gary…it has been quite a protracted amount of time and I have had no response…it looks like maybe a good program to have, but it’s not going anywhere if we never get the info we need to run it.
Thanks for trying…and I am telling all my family and friends to logon and vote for the site.
Ashraf,
Do you know if I can get 2 licenses for 2 computers?
I appreciate what you do for your global neighbors.
Joe
@Muhammad: You are welcome.
@gary: It took me about 10 minutes to get an e-mail. Maybe check your junk/spam box? Or, try with another e-mail.
@DrLongBear: It took me about 10 minutes. As I told Gary, have you checked your junk/email box? If that still doesn’t work try using another e-mail.
And thanks for the votes =).
@Joe: I don’t see why not. But you will have to use multiple e-mail addresses.
@Ashraf: Everything is fine, I got three emails. And, Thanks
AOA Ashraf,
Thanks for another useful post. Seems like a great utility as I have faced an incident of crashing HDD.
BTW, I’m still waiting for registration e-mail as well :(
AOA
Thanks Ashraf for this wonderful program.
According to experience, all O&O freebies do not have free updates. (there could be exceptions, of course :))
Just installed this software, Restarted fine Entered the reg code and it crashed my system, Tried it again then crashed again, I have now uninstalled it.
Running Win 7 Home Premium X64.
Runs great and I’m all green! LOL
Thanks Ashraf! I do need to do a backup anyway, but at least with this, I will know something is about to go!
Every time I re-start the program (i.e. after a restart of computer or just because I accidentally closed the program) I need to re-enter all my registration information. Any ideas as to why this might be happening? BTW, I am running it on Windwos 7 64bit.
are there any open source alternatives?
I have the same problem as Vinnie.(12)
I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit
Curious program. It shows drive temps and lets you run S.M.A.R.T. self tests, all of which could be done with freeware. The code’s a bit sloppy, but I’m a little critical about that kind of stuff – it still works. Registering only ends the 30 day limit; all the functions are the same.
My biggest frustration with this is the marketing. It’s made to sound like the program will alert you to impending drive failure without running the tests. I just don’t see that happening in that fashion. As always, ymmv, imho.

HDD Health v3.3 Build 220 Beta
HDD Health is a full-featured failure-prediction agent for machines using Windows 95, 98, NT, Me, 2000 and XP. Sitting in the system tray, it monitors hard disks and alerts you to impending failure. The program uses Self Monitoring and Reporting Technology (S.M.A.R.T.) built into all new hard disks, and can predict failures on your hard drives. A host of alerting features include email, local pop-up messages, net messages, and event logging, while using no system resources.
I have been using it for over a year.
@RobCr:
RobCr, you list OS’ up tp XP only. Does this mean it does not work under Vista and Win 7..?
@AlanR:
Not to sure on that one.
I don;t have either OS.
I notice that this site -
http://www.bestvistadownloads.com/
and this site -
http://www.vistaheads.com/index.php
have it listed, so they are alleging that it works on Vista.
@Ashraf
Requesting your kind help.I’ve got the app installed on my comp. Prior to that around 18 hrs ago I had filled the registration form & was told they’ll email me the licence key etc. It has still not come by email. Pls advise
Yikes.! Like No.2 Gary, it’s One hour after registering and still no license key e-mail. :(
Trying another e-mail address now.!
P.S. – I did edit my comments at No.17 but the typo corrections etc. have not been implemented – why?
@AlanR:
Alan this is my fifth attempt to reply.
This time I will leave out the links, in case they are triggering the problem.
there are two Vista web sites offering to download that program, so I figure Vista should be ok.

@Ashraf
Thank you Chief! I got my registration.
Ramesh :D
@AlanR:
Hi! In answer to your question I am directly copy pasting from the app’s help file:-
System Requirements
The system requirement of each operating system have to be fulfilled
10 MB free hard disk space for installation

1 licence per computer dear friends. The very good help file says this:-
Note on licensing
O&O DriveLED needs to be licensed per computer; in other words, you have to purchase a license for each computer where you want to employ O&O Defrag. You are not allowed to transfer this license on another computer.
Ramesh :)
@gary:
Friend I got it after 18 hrs, others got it in 10 mins. So definitely you’d get it even if it takes time I guess
Ramesh :)
