dotTech Exclusive: 20 free licenses of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite (Part 2)!

March 18, 2010 76 Email article | Print article

Two week ago (wow… it has been a really long time since I have posted on dotTech) I introduced a dotTech Exclusive promotion giving away 20 licenses of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite. As I mentioned in the earlier post, the promotion works in two parts; so in that regard, is this part 2 of the promotion (or, in other words, the part where you can throw your name into the hat to try to win a license).

Here is a recap of what Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite is and what it does:

(Click on image to view list in full.)

If you would like to win a license of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite, follow these simple instructions/guidelines:

  • If you want to be eligible to win one of the licenses, you must post a comment below. In the comment you must post answers to the following questions:
  1. What you used (or will use) Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite for?
  2. What is your favorite feature in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?
  3. Are there any aspects of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite that can be improved (bug fixes, more features, interface enhancements, etc.)? If so, please explain.
  4. If you were in the market looking for a hard drive management software, would you pay $49.95 to purchase Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite? In other words, do you think $49.95 is a fair price for this software? If not, please specify the price you would prefer.

Anyone that does not post answers to all of the four questions will be disqualified.

  • 7 licenses are reserved for dotTech donors, authors, and artists. If you fall in this 5 license reserve category, please specifically state so in your comment (i.e. say “I am a donor” if you are a donor, etc.), otherwise I may not know. Also if you are a donor, please be sure to use the e-mail you donated with in your comment (do not post your e-mail in public, just use the e-mail in the “e-mail” form when posting a comment) so I can confirm.
  • 13 licenses can be won by anyone.
  • I reserve the right to award specific people licenses if I feel they have helped foster the dotTech family by being very active (the people who fall into this category is at my sole discretion).
  • You may only enter once and only win one license. Anyone that tries to enter more than once will be disqualified.
  • By entering this drawing, you give me the right to pass on your e-mail to Paragon Software (they will be the ones distributing the licenses).

If you win and don’t have a valid e-mail or an e-mail you don’t check, your license will go to waste. However, please don’t post your e-mail in your comment! 1. What you used (or will use) Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite for?

I am a big fan of Paragon and have used their software for a number of years now, so was excited about the opportunity to win a license for the Hard Disk Manager suite. I own a small business that relies heavily on using various databases, word processing, and development of presentations, so having a dependable back-up system is critical.

    2. What is your favorite feature in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?

This Suite is chock-full of features, and while an image backup is a necessity, perhaps my favorite feature of the Hard Disk Manager is the “Smart Backup” feature, since I can make smaller, more targeted types of backups…not to mention that the software is very simple to use!

    3. Are there any aspects of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite that can be improved?

The File Backup feature seems to take a long time, but I’m sure that’s dependent on the large number of files I have. I find it easier to use the File Transfer feature so I can preserve the original files if I need quick access to a backup copy.

    4. If you were in the market looking for a hard drive management software, would you pay $49.95 to purchase Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?

Given all of the features that are offered through this program, the price is quite competitive, since you might spend half to two-thirds of the price for only one or two utilities offered through this complete feature-rich package. That is, if you purchased individual components of the package–as many software companies do–you should expect to pay much more proportionally than the current price.

Thanks for this great opportunity to win great software and protect my meager budget.

    1. I would mainly use this to resize partitions and to backup partitions.
    2. Merging partitions is extremely useful, but the partition resizing would be my favorite.
    3. The disk defragging leaves a lot to be desired.
    4. $49.95 is a bit much for my budget considering some of the other available offers, and the defragging currently offers no value to me, so probably more in the $29.95 range would be better for me.

    Thanks again.

    Asalamo Alaikom Ashraf

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to get a license of this great software.

    1. I have used older versions of PHDM in the past and I used to and will use it to carry out partition operations (resize \ move etc…) and backup and recovery. It has also interesting features such as secure deletion (wiping).

    2. I cannot name one as there are many features in HD management aspects but the one I like most the partition operations it has and how easy they are to use.

    3. One thing nags me really with the backup and restore features that they are sometimes very slow. I compared them against Acronis True Image 10 and in all tests True Image was always significantly faster than Paragon.

    4. I think $49.95 is a reasonable price with all the features available in PHDM.

    Regards,

    Mohamed Hassan

    Welcome back Ashraf :)

    1. I used it to defrag and make a backup of my system partition.

    2. My favorite feature, as with most Paragon products, is the backup and recovery feature. Saved me once before from a dying hd.

    3. One thing I would suggest to Paragon is to have the installer check if creation of 8.3 filenames and folders is enabled or not on the host computer and ask the user to enable it and reboot before pursuing the installation of any Paragon product since it is heavily reliant on it being enabled (on my XPSP3 system at least, it needs to be enabled to do a recovery via the program). The archive database location needs improvement. Another thing to note is the slow defragmentation speed as opposed to other defraggers.

    4. For all the features this product is offering the user, I’d say $49.95 may even be considered cheap.

Thank you so much !!! for the auslogic defrag, A great Blessing!! I hope I win this but am worried about being able to download as we only get 28.8 on dialup here.

    1. What you used (or will use) Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite for?

Doing a back up of which is long over do. Haven’t had one work right as of yet. Looking forward to incremental backups

    2. What is your favorite feature in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?

I like the fact that a huge hard drive can be made into various small ones without formatting and starting over.

    3. Are there any aspects of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite that can be improved (bug fixes, more features, interface enhancements, etc.)? If so, please explain.

Never could afford such good software but I am hoping it clones hard drives as I have 3 older pc’s.

    4. If you were in the market looking for a hard drive management software, would you pay $49.95

I think if it works as described Yes its worth $50.

Welcome back once again Ashraf, I’m happy that you are back, as an IT student you are number two instructor, I visit this blog many many times a day to read your nice articles.

As an IT in my area, a lot people turn to me for help when they find trouble with their computers, most of them have only one partition (i.e C:)which contain OS.

So I’ve to use PHDM2010 for
    1. Backing up the system, partitioning the HDD
and restoring the system back the easy way.
    2. Express resize partitions manager, redistribute free space wizard and recovery media builder.
    3. I don’t see any at the time I tried it out.
    4. yes, if you the importance of PHDM2010 and it helped you, you’ll have no problem with price. PHDM2010 is a great program and for me it deserves that price.

    Thanks

Please count me in to win a license for Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite.
    1. Partition backup / resize / move / modify parameters. Partition mount. Recover Media. Differential backups.
    2. Restore single files from sector image – and RELIABILITY.
    3. Don’t know yet.
    4. I would prefer something around $30, but if all the features work as described, its worth $50.

This software is the bomb. Thank you, we appreciate the chance to win such a premium quality software suite. We missed seeing your posts at GAOTD.

    1. I plan on using this program for nearly every feature that it has, if only to try them out. I love to play with software and I have learned, the hard way, that it’s O.K. to play (Just use protection)AKA{Back it up}. That’s why back-up management is my primary purpose for this software.

    2. This is a tough one. I would have to say my absolute favorite feature is the incremental back-up feature; however, the smart back-up feature has it’s appeal also. The ability to run multiple virtual machines from one OS could be very useful in the near future. Yep… so many bells and whistles, I’m feeling like a kid in a candy shop.

    3. I will need some more time to find any bugs. (none yet) I can’t think of any features that are missing and the interface is pretty darned nice. An earlier post mentioned that the visual representation of smaller partitions is lacking; I agree. Other than that, I wouldn’t change a thing.

    4. I am in the market for hard drive management software. This software is more feature rich than any of it’s direct competitors. At $49.95 it’s priced at the higher end of it’s market, however upon use of this trial version Paragon sent me a special offer of $34.9x and that is exactly the price I would recommend that they charge for this application suite.

Kudos Paragon, you have made a virtual sale. Congratulations, I’m a tough sell especially when it comes to software. I would pay $34.9x if I wasn’t going to win a copy; but, I am claiming by faith in Yehshua’s provision that I am going to win a copy. So, I’ll be sure and recommend Paragon HDM 2010 Suite to anyone that is in the market to purchase an excellent disk management suite.

    add me in the draw.
    1. resize disk, backup.
    2. restore with shrink.
    3. it won’t handle FAT (Nt4) disk if m/b (actually m/b did, just XP up OS don’t translate correctly) can’t see it, sometimes saw as RAW, sometimes partial.
    4. I would look for free alternative, in situation of case project, possible, $19 to $29 is more attractive.

    1. What you used (or will use) Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite for?
My main PC is the hub of our family’s data storage, we back up other PCs and USB sticks to this PC and then back up this PC. PC is also used for job hunting, writing and recording music, and other important tasks, so it’s critical to have software I can trust to maintain its drives and make backups I can depend on.

    2. What is your favorite feature in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?
I like that it pulls together most of Paragon’s tools into a single place. I’ve got about 8 different Paragon programs from GAOTD that all overlap each other, very confusing when guessing which one to use or what can be uninstalled. So this suite’s best feature is it will help simplfy and organize at least part of my life!

    3. Are there any aspects of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite that can be improved…
I tried the disk defragmenter in one of their “2009″ tools and whether it was their software or some other event, I was greeted in the morning by a Blue Screen and my C: partition could no longer be read. I’m hoping that the 2010 version fixes any issues but did not get to test it during the 5-day trial. On the brighter side, Paragon’s recovery programs all loaded fine, unlike those for the program I used to make my backups (Macrium Reflect), the proverbial cloud in front of the silver lining. I had to buy full version of Reflect to get the WinPE version of their restore, then all was fine….
Program takes a long time to start up but then it’s easy to find everything, screens are clear. Help files are simply not helpful, they’re written by someone close to the technology who doesn’t understand what questions and concerns all the rest of us would have.

    4. …do you think $49.95 is a fair price for this software?
I once paid over $60 for Partition Magic, and bought it again a few years later to run it under WinXP. Today with so many “free” partition managers on the market it seems $49.95 is a bit high, but this is a very comprehensive suite of what I think are reliable tools. Easy to use. So $40-50 is a fair price range, of course I prefer $40. Until I find a job and build up some savings I won’t be buying it even for $10, but that (I hope!) is temporary.

Ashraf, good to see you back!

    1. What you used (or will use) Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite for?

Partioning and system backups. Of course, I would try all of the features.

    2. What is your favorite feature in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?

The system backup has many extra features for me.

    3. Are there any aspects of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite that can be improved (bug fixes, more features, interface enhancements, etc.)? If so, please explain.

I have not had any experiences that would need improvement – at least not yet.

    4. If you were in the market looking for a hard drive management software, would you pay $49.95

With all of the features available with this suite, I would pay $49.95.

  14. Karl March 19, 2010 at 10:45 AM (comment permalink) -

    1. Mostly for image backup, occasionally to restore from a backup, some partition work on rare occasion, and I’ve used the boot manager / corrector before and it’s a god send when you need it. I have recovery media built but I might redo with WinPE and I might try the defragmenter.

    2. Resonably fast ImageBackups you can count on.

    3. I might be missing this functionality but something between the ease of backups available with System Backup 2010, using the backup wizard and creating a backup capsule. Most backups allow you to configure a backup then schedule it or run it on demand. I have not found that exact functionality yet but it’s probably there. I don’t like scheduling because the machine might not be on or the external HDD might not be attached but, when I do run the backup, it’s the same setup (drives + exclusions), so I’d like to just set it up once and run on demand.

    4. Because of what you get with the PHDM 2010 I think it’s a fair price BUT I don’t see myself using all of its functionality so I’d be more inclined to pay $30-40.

Thanks for the opportunity to win a license for Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 and Welcome back Ashraf!

    Karl

    p.s. I am a donor.

    Hi DotTech!

Thanks for provideing us a great oppirtunity to winn a good product like this one from Paragon.

I’ve been testing this software Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite on my Fujitsu Siemens Windows XP Pro 32bit home computer with 3 installed harddisks at 500GB.
Mainly in matter of rezise, merge and makeing new partitions when dealing with install and make new place for new installed virtual machines with different OS inside from other clones.

Should mention that I’m impressed of the variable drag and drop feature when working direct on the screen, other favorites was the BootManager and the Backup & Recovery feature and the not forgotten filetransfer.
I’ve also had the chanse to work with Paragons other tool Partition Manager 10 for virtual machines.
Recognized there are some features which was missing and could have been included in the Suite version from the virtual version – that would be terrific!
Other improvements might be some more interactive warnings for the user when something missing or fail. For example the program did’nt explained when I did’nt had enough of free MBR slots and could’nt create a new partition. Would’nt be wrong if it was possible to develop a couple more of simple tutorials and guides to read inside the software. That would be a great help for all users, perhaps also some smaller improvement of icons in make them a bit easier to understand in visual design would be nice.
(Perhaps also the installer of 141MB could be smaller).
When talking of bugs I could’nt face anything wrong.
In the speak of price and in consideration there is other free similar products that makes it even more important keep an steady line in name of professional graphical interface together with embedded built in features which really is professional particularly when selling a product on the market.
Half the price might be enough in this case.
Believe that would be more successful and also make this like a even better favorite and best selling product for Paragon in the nearest years.

In despite of above I’m still curious continue to discover this software more in deep as it really has many good usefull features to solve many issues on the way and therefor gladly accepting the offer to participate in this giveaway.
    Looking much forward!
    Thanks

Why Paragon Hard Disk Manager when there are several freeware alternatives? Well, I use the version 9.5 software from Paragon, and I must say that it is very complete, powerful and intuitive. Is very reliable.

    1. In addition to the normal operations of partitioning and backup system, it allows me to create multi-boot system so simple and fast.

    2. My favorite features in the suite 2010 are the “Advanced system of filters” for building up future contents of backup images by excluding irrelevant data such as movies, music, etc. and The “Selective Restore”.

    3. The only flaw I found in the version I used is, in a Boot Capsule, the inability to define a system bootable by default in the case of a multi-boot (starts automatically on the last system used).

    4. I think it for a lifetime license the price is OK

I installed Paragon’s Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite on to my computer.

First, I liked the easy to use interface (simple, but effective).

Second, I had an internal 200GB HDD that lost it boot section due to a virus. I deleted the partition and created a new formated the HDD all with very little effort. I installed Red Hat on it with no problems. I then resized the partition and created another one on the HDD and installed Windows 7 on it.

The program work beautifully. I believe that Paragon’s Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite is worth the $49.95 they are asking for the program.

Better yet, if I could win a free license would just wonderful.

    1. What you used (or will use) Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite for?

I used Paragon Hardisk Manager for backup, restore, partitioning and wiping my drive. Its really really useful for me because I have a multiple-user PC that prone to undesirable changer that cause the failure of the machine. Paragon HDM save me a lot for bare metal restore just like new windows.

    2. What is your favorite feature in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?

What I like in Paragon HDM is the Virtual pre-execution of tasks. I see every detail and the result of every operation that execute without damaging the drive. And you can assign a set of operation like wiping, restoring, defrag like what I do regularly. I set this set of task and your done. Go to sleep for example and you have no worries (because of Virtual pre-execution of tasks) that I didn’t see in any backup and managing tools like Paragon HDM.

    3. Are there any aspects of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite that can be improved (bug fixes, more features, interface enhancements, etc.)? If so, please explain.

As far as I can see. Paragon HDM is a complete and very reliable. Maybe I want to see the improvements in backup, restore, etc. operation speed and the compression size of the backup as other competitors is fast and the compression size is noticeable low (although it is enough for me in the current Paragon HDM)

    4. If you were in the market looking for a hard drive management software, would you pay $49.95 to purchase Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite? In other words, do you think $49.95 is a fair price for this software? If not, please specify the price you would prefer.

Maybe a little low will be enough. Like $30-$35 will be enough. And I hope they implement another marketing price in some third world country like here in my country. Like $17-$23 will be a fare price based on our country’s salary.

    Ashraf,
I’ll submit my entry in a moment, but first: your final bullet point is confusing:
“Anyone that wins, or owns, Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite is eligible for a 50% discount when upgrading to Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite.”

You get 50% off to upgrade to what you already own??

    Ashraf,
Thanks for your work in making this opportunity possible.

    1) What you used (or will use) Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite for?

My primary use will be adjusting partitions. From time to time, the files on a partition accumulate and it needs to grow in size. A partition manager is needed to move space around. Paragon HDM is excellent for that. The visual representation of the location of the partitions and empty spaces is particularly helpful for managing partitions.

I could have used it just a week ago! My daughter’s external hard drive which she uses to back up her Mac was not working. I was able to determine that it was formatted with the Apple HFS file system; but none of my tools could read the drive. If I had had Paragon HDM 2010, I could have at least looked at it, to see if the data was still intact. As it was, I had to clear the hard drive, losing everything on it.

Once I got to trust HDM, I would use it for saving images of partitions, replacing Acronis True Image and BootItNG. I did run it twice during the trial, and it worked fine, even doing a “hot” (or “live”) process. I was able to keep on using the computer while it made the image; it saved the file as it was at the beginning of the procedure. The compression was negligible; but it was still similar in size and time to the ones made by Acronis and BootItNG.

    2) What is your favorite feature in Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite?
The two-step “Apply/Discard” process. At first this irked me: “I know what I’m doing!” But it has since grown on me.

    3) Are there any aspects of Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite that can be improved (bug fixes, more features, interface enhancements, etc.)? If so, please explain.
When I saw “Express resize” among the features, I got excited, thinking it would be an easy way to make complex adjustments. Example: Partitions A, B, C each have 50 GB. Take 20 GB off A and add it to C. Doing this manually involves several steps, often with long intervals while data is shifted around. Sadly, the Express tool is nothing like that. But that’s my suggestion!

    4) If you were in the market looking for a hard drive management software, would you pay $49.95 to purchase Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2010 Suite? In other words, do you think $49.95 is a fair price for this software? If not, please specify the price you would prefer.
Short answer: Yes, it’s a fair price. No, I would not pay that much. I might pay $10.
Long answer: Ironically, Paragon’s strongest competition is… Paragon. You’ve given away so many freebies — Thank-you! — that people (well, cheapskates like me) now expect something for little or nothing. With the freebies from you and other sources, there is little market remaining for paid applications. The exception would be in business environments, where free software is still often seen as unreliable.

@Bruce Fraser: Thanks for catching my typos (they never seem to end do they). It should be 50% if upgrading to 2011.
