dotTech Exclusive: Free Sog DVD Ripper Platinum!

March 25, 2010 53 Email article | Print article

Thanks for dotTech’s Free Advertising Initiative, dotTech has been able to bring dotTechies multiple commercial software for free. This post is about another such offering. This time we have teamed up SogSoft Inc. to bring you Sog DVD Ripper Platinum for free!

Sog DVD Ripper Platinum is a professional DVD ripper that allows users to rip DVDs to multiple different video formats. However, the highlight of Sog DVD Ripper Platinum is not that it can do DVD -> other format conversions, but rather that it can bypass DRM protection while doing it. (Public service reminder: Please only use DVD rippers – such as Sog DVD Ripper Platinum – for activities that are legal.) Here is a chart that sums up the jist of what Sog DVD Ripper Platinum supports:

Now at this point I am sure most dotTechies are thinking “Okay, but who is this SogSoft – I have never heard of them before?” Sure some dotTechies may not have heard of SogSoft in the past, but I am sure many dotTechies have heard of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. A little bit of digging and research reveals that Sog DVD Ripper Platinum and WinX DVD Ripper Platinum are one in the same; both are sourced from Freetime Software Inc. which is the former name of Digiarty Software Inc. the developer of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. To add icing to the cake, this promotion includes free updates and free technical support from SogSoft.

So, to get Sog DVD Ripper Platinum for free, follow these simple directions:

Version being given away for free: v5.0 Build 20080627

Free updates: Yes

Supported OS: Windows 98/NT/2000/XP/Windows 2003/Vista/Win7

Update: Kaspersky and a-squared are picking up Sog DVD Ripper Platinum as a trojan. As far as I know, Sog DVD Ripper Platinum is safe and these are false positive readings (see VirusTotal scan results and SiteAdvisor rating). If someone has any information that says otherwise, please do say.

  • Install Sog DVD Ripper Platinum.
  • After installation, register Sog DVD Ripper Platinum with the following registration information:

regname name: dotTech User
regcode:
Sog-3150-5151-7795

Note: This promotion is available to everyone – everyone may get it for free. However, this is a dotTech.org promotion. Please do not copy, paste, or reprint this registration information anywhere else including private or public forums, blogs, file hosting services, etc. If you want to spread information about this offer, you may link to this article by providing a permalink (alternative link) to your audience.

  • Enjoy!

If you have trouble taking advantage of this offer, please post below and I will try to help. Remember you can also contact SogSoft technical support for assistance.

    Why does SogSoft, similar to Digiarty WinX, not include Real Media in the output format files?

    This is great — thanks both to you, Ashraf, and SogSoft! Thus far, A-Squared, which is beginning to work my nerves, is keeping quiet.

    “Sog DVD Ripper Platinum is a professional DVD ripper” :
    thus WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is not and there is a significant difference (outside of the free updates)???
    Thanks Ashraf & Sogsoft!!

    Just downloaded Sog DVD Ripper Platinum to a Windows 7, 64 bit OS and when I attempted to register the program everything froze (like Roland’s experience). I, too, rebooted my computer, (following Roland’s example). I don’t know if the program has been registered and I cannot find where I can input the registration information once again or where I can check for updates to the program? I have sent an email to Sog technical support for assistance but I have not yet received a response to my email.

    Mr. Boss

    @Ethan: You are welcome =).

    @John: I am not particularly sure when updates will be released. That is up to the developer, although he has told me updates will be released “soon”.

    @Ed: You are welcome. When does it open IE after installation? I really don’t remember it doing that for me.

    @John G.: You are welcome =).

    @sean: You are welcome =). And I am not SogSoft but I think it should.

    @David .F: You are welcome =).

    @Adrian: Thanks for catching my mistake. It has been fixed. And you are welcome =).

    @jumbi: Thanks =). I am glad you enjoy it.

    @anemailname: You are welcome =).

    @moe-chan: I don’t know.

    @Jeffinprov: You are welcome =).

    @Chirs.L: You are welcome =).

    @MikeR: Nah its fine MikeR. I appreciate him catching my mistakes; someone should proofread my work, after all =P. Thanks for the support, though.

    @Jeanjean: Well WinX DVD Ripper Platinum and Sog DVD Ripper Platinum are pretty much the same software so if one is “professional” the other one has to be too =P. As for which one is “better” – I believe the WinX one is more recently updated, but otherwise they are the exact same.

    @TC: You are welcome =). No, it is permanent.

    @Seeker1: If after running Sog DVD Ripper Platinum you are not promoted to register it, then it registered fine. If not, you can always come back here and grab the registration information at your leisure in the future.

    @Seeker1: I am the same to you, SogSoft support team email back to me, I noticed they are very busy with so many user’s comments. I think you will get your answer right away, The solution for me is open the software by right click, choose running way and administrator right, you will be noticed to register, input the regcode and regname…

    @Ashraf: Site Advisor scans the software only with McAfee. However they also install it and check for malicious activities.

    Mr. Boss

    @Locutus: They do more than just scanning; they actually analyze which is why they are so reliable.

    Just a question for you today.

    What’s better, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum or Free Sog DVD Ripper Platinum or do they complement each other?

    Thank you Ashraf!

    Maybe this file is really infected, maybe not?

    For new files that are suspect in some way, and which I do not need immediately,
    I have my own personal strategy:

    1. Download to a secure place e.g. memory stick and mark it as insecure
    2. WAIT A WHILE AND DO NOT INSTALL INSTANTLY until antivirus definitions are updated (can last a few months!)
    3. then check before install

    that´s the way to be on the sure side

    Peter Pan – I agree with you on this one. Download, park it aside and leave for a while, then scan it with antivirus definitions a few months from now. Then consider installing.

    This is a practice that I do often if there is a doubt about some software or the source of the software.

    It also worries me that there is no comment from Sog Software. The developer could so easily clear any doubts. He has informed us that he will be scanning and reading our feedback.

    We under stand that certain software used a special script to do its work. A piece of software comes to mind called “Drive Snapshot” that creates a backup safety disk image.

    Because it has to address the hardware layer directly it needs to by-bass the operating system thus the need for the script. Some anti-virus products flag the scripting tool. However, the scripting tool is not being implemented in a malicious ways.

    Knowing this there is peace of mind.

    Sog Software – in the silence the doubts remain.

    @ #44 & #45:

    Guess you won’t be interested in Ashraf’s GOTD reviews then. Because downloading a GOTD offer and keeping it “a few months” means you’ve just wasted your time and bandwidth.

    I’m surprised that people concerned about suspect software seem never to have Googled about their concerns. . . :idea:

    Had they done so, the word ‘Sandboxie’ would doubtless have appeared in the search results.

    Sogsoft and Winx are the same company, they are both Iobit. Iobit is also DVDFast.net, and Evonsoft.com. To see a example of what kind of company your dealing with, go to http://www.evonsoft.com and have a look around. There is no working email address and no user forum.

    Mr. Boss

    @Al Bundy: I replied to your comment in the other thread about this issue. Maybe you have not ready it. Here it is again for your convenience:

    Are they? You sure about that? I know for sure IObit and DVDFast are the same, and I know SogSoft is a WinX reseller. I was told DVDFast is also a WinX reseller. (Take note that being a “reseller” does not mean they are the same two companies.)

    That said, assuming they all are the same company – and mind you I don’t think they all are the same company – it is common business practice to sell you products under multiple brand names because it helps maximize profits. As a consumer I don’t like it, but as a business most everyone does it (the most notorious example are automakers – often a luxury brand will be pretty much the same car as the non-luxury brand but the luxury brand will cost a lot more). That is not to say I am defending the business practice; I am just saying it isn’t one or two companies.

    In my personal book, selling your own products under a different brand name is not illegal, and it is not bad enough to be unethical; rather I see it as being distasteful – if companies do that they should be transparent about it.
