Apple announces CarPlay, aims to bring iOS to your car

Apple has announced CarPlay, formerly known as iOS in the Car. The new feature will be coming to iOS 7 and is “designed from the ground up to provide drivers with an incredible experience using their iPhone in the car.” It will primarily be controlled through Siri voice commands, allowing users to keep their eyes on the road.
With CarPlay, users will be able to to access things like to take incoming calls, respond to messages, listen to music through your phone’s local library or through streaming services and finally, navigate using Apple Maps. Considering Apple Maps’ less than stellar reputation, hopefully other services like Google Maps will be added.
The Geneva Motor Show this week will see the unveiling of CarPlay supported vehicles from Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, and Volvo. Cars from Nissan, Peugeot, Jaguar Land Rover, BMW, Honda and Toyota will follow.
Only iPhones with a Lightning port will be compatible, which includes the iPhone 5, 5c and the 5s.
