UK government employee who helped create UK’s porn filter has been arrested for child porn

Patrick Rock, who is an advisor to UK Prime Minister David Cameron and the deputy director of policy, has resigned from his post on Monday because he was arrested in February for being in possession of child pornography.

Rock, who was involved in the creation of the controversial UK porn filter, was arrested on February 13th, a day after David Cameron’s office was  “made aware of a potential offense relating to child abuse imagery”.

“Subsequently, we arranged for officers to come into No 10 and have access to all IT systems and offices they considered relevant,” an anonymous spokesperson said to the UK’s media. “This is an ongoing investigation so it would not be appropriate to comment further, but the Prime Minister believes that child abuse imagery is abhorrent and that anyone involved with it should be properly dealt with under the law.”

That spokesperson immediately tried to distance Rock from the online policy that resulted in the UK porn filter. “Patrick Rock was one of a number of advisers and officials involved in dealing with this issue—but the work was led by somebody else, and decisions were taken by ministers,” they said.

It’s doubtful that the amount of involvement Roch had will matter much now, especially when you consider the severity of this scandal.

One of Cameron’s previous Advisors is currently on trial for ‘phone hacking.
You can judge a person by the company they keep!

[@Ashraf] The answer to your question in comment #1, is it that they feel in complete control?

For the most part, it isn’t about sex. It’s about power. they aren’t getting gratification from the child, they are getting it from being able to manipulate and control another person. If they could have the same power imbalance with an adult, many of them would be just as happy, but they don’t dare try it because adults are harder to manipulate and capable of fighting back if force comes into play.

Just a legal heads-up: Rock is *alleged* to have been in possession of materials relating to child abuse. He will at some stage go on trial and be found guilty or not guilty. Dot Tech seems to be taking the view that his exit from political life is an admission of guilt. It isn’t. As to the ‘porn filter’ thing, reaction to its existence in the UK has been one long sustained yawn, so Rock’s arrest will excite only those sad souls who read the Daily Mail Online.

As for a more on topic comment, I’m sure this scandal will give ammo to people against the porn filter but I don’t see the relation between the actions of one man and a national porn filter… assuming he didn’t do something to sabotage. Hypocrisy? Sure. Anything else? Meh.

[@J.L.] I actually had the same thought as you: it is a sexual orientation different than society’s norm and not accepted in society (yet and hopefully never will be). The whole comparison between between homosexuality and pedophiles did cross my mind but the fact remains, in the later a child is involved — and in most of cases, the child doesn’t have a choice in the matter whereas homosexuality tends to be similar to regular old fashion sex with two consenting partners (rapes aside, which happen regardless of if you are gay or straight).

What I don’t understand what people receive from children — what sort of pleasure can a child give you that an adult can’t.

[@Ashraf] It’s a sexual orientation that is illegal nowadays. Yes, you can compare it to other orientations like homosexuality.

What’s wrong doesn’t change facts, like how they’ll need therapy instead of the same old backwards witch hunt.

I find these people to be absolutely disgusting. Why would anyone want to have sex with a child and/or view a child being molested? If you are that horny, there are plenty of adults you can go fuck — free or otherwise. What do people get from children anyway?
