Update: This promotion has now ended.
As promised earlier this week, dotTech is teaming up with GlarySoft to bring everyone Glary Utilities Pro for free! For those that don’t know, Glary Utilities is a jack-of-all-trades software that can do all of the following (as per the developer):
Glary Utilities comes in two flavors: Glary Utilities Free and Glary Utilities Pro. The main differences between the two flavors as per the developer are that Glary Utilities Pro comes with:
- Automatic care in background
- Enhanced system fixing, optimizing and more
- Free 24×7 Technical Support
- Consent for commercial use Attention: This specific promotion entitles usage of Glary Utilities Pro for non-commercial use only.
So, as the title of this post says, dotTechies have the chance to get Glary Utilities Pro for free! This promotion will be open for 24 hours only – from 00:00 – 24:00 PST (Pacific Standard Time, or GMT -7) on May 12, 2010 – and everyone will receive 1 year of free updates. Note that you will only be able to grab a free license key within the 24 hour time frame, but you can use the key you get to install Glary Utilities Pro at a later date, if you wish.
Update: There was a communication problem between me and GlarySoft. We both agreed upon running the giveaway for 24 hours on May 12, 2010, but they live in China so they probably setup the giveaway for 24 hours Chinese time where as I ran the giveaway PST time (hence the giveaway “ended early”). GlarySoft and dotTech recognize this problem and apologize for it (see comment #86 for an official apology from GlarySoft). The giveaway is now open again and this giveaway has been extended by 6 hours and will now last until 06:00 PST May 13, 2010.
Anyone that has any problems or issues can e-mail GlarySoft at support [at] glarysoft.com before 0600 PST May 13, 2010 and they will be e-mailed a license. Also, any complaints can go to support [at] glarysoft.com.

@Sophie:
As I was not being a ‘ friendly and tolerant Dottechers ‘ I herewith apologize.
Thanks for posting an explanation here and clearing the matter up.
Also, many thanks for the freebie.
Cheers,
@Gil: I would say if you are still registered to GOTD, then just go with it. The performance of the program doesn’t really matter on who it is registered to – as long as it works fine, then who cares if it is registered to GOTD or to the registration key you got from dotTech.
@Ashraf: I understand your point. As a reviewer and techie you should worry more than most when the software behaves differently than it should. If it does so in the registration process (I had the same experience) it is likely some of the rest of its features might behave just as poorly. A freebie may be a freebie, but a freebie that potentially damages your system becomes something else altogether. We still appreciate your efforts and your desire to take a vacation in peace :-) Cheers
@Ed: The thing is when it comes to registration, often attempts to “unregister” a program will fail. This is because (most) registration information is stored in the registry and uninstalling programs won’t just make that registration information go poof. Although this may be annoying when trying to register the software with different registration information, this actually is a good preemptive measure that helps people who want to reinstall their software yet lost their registration keys.
Glary Utilities is not the only software that this happens with (most software behave this way) and Glary Utilities is fairly trustworthy. I wouldn’t worry about it too much and don’t let the registration problems reflect upon the actual performance of GU.
If you really, really want to try to unregister a software, your best bet is uninstalling it using RevoUninstaller (RevoUninstaller may find those leftover registry keys and delete them) or running CCleaner after uninstalling to delete orphan keys in the registry. Then reinstall the software and you may be able to reregister it.
Thanks Ashraf & Glary Utilities for this opportunity.
Thanks, Grr
I did not have to register Glary Utilities Pro
thanks for this utility
To Gil, Ed and everybody who wants to change registry info and have installed GAOTD version of Glary Utilities on computer.
First: you don’t need to uninstall your GAOTD version. Follow this few steps (5) and your name will be on the status tab of GU and you will still have GAOTD reg info as a backup if you ever decide to switch back to GAOTD version.
1) Open Registry Editor (start->Run -> type regedit and hit enter).
2) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER->Software->GlarySoft->Glary Utilities.
3) Rigt click on Glary Utilities and choose Export: name it e.g. “GAOTD GU registration.reg” (Export range – > Selected branch) and save it in a save place.
4) Now you can delete Glary Utilities key: right click on Glary Utilities and choose Delete or just hit Delete button and confirm deletion. Close Registry Editor.
5) Open Glary Utilities and enter your dotTech’s registry information and reconfigure your settings of the program.
That’s it. You can backup your dotTech’s Glary Utilities reg info by the same procedure. If you ever need to enter any of this *.reg keys: double click *.reg key and confirm the changes (click Yes) when prompt.
Thanks Ashraf for Glary Utilities Pro. Have a nice vacation.
I’ve tried all the steps mentioned above without any success. Any one have an answer for me?
Regards
@catman: Can you be more specific ? I would be glad to help you. Didn’t your reg info change after applying procedure I described ?
Darn, missed it. That will teach me to watch my DotTech email more closely :)
@3K3: Thank you for your kindness. Cheers.
Ended, but the link will get you a coupon offer for lifetime licence at half price.
@Ed: You are welcome. I hope this means you successfully changed registration information of GU.
I got it OK somehow, and find it delightful. Plan to buy it.
Disappointed that after I ran the Utilities my Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter failed to run properly – obviously the Glary deleted or altered the program’s files. Fortunately, I always set a restore point before trying anything new and was able to get the full functionality of the program back – so I won’t be using Glary again!! I find Advanced System Care the best.
I’m glad That there are new and older security program’s. Sjnce mine are just starting to expire, the first being a firewall, I have been using online armor pro. Plus I have one of those refurbished dell which has xp pro, the previous computer has Vista home. During and when I have ended nunidawg’s quest of 2010 security of What I think is the best setup of security for these Os’s are.
@JohnD: I’m signed up for email and never got a email for Free Glary Utilities Pro so I missed it to.
How do I update Glary Util Pro? You say I have until May 2011 but if I reinstall the new version won’t I lose the freebie version I already have installed?
Dan
