dotTech Exclusive: Free Glary Utilities Pro! (Promotion open for 24 hours only so hurry!) *Update: Promo extended for 6 more hours*

May 12, 2010 121 Email article | Print article

Update: This promotion has now ended.

As promised earlier this week, dotTech is teaming up with GlarySoft to bring everyone Glary Utilities Pro for free! For those that don’t know, Glary Utilities is a jack-of-all-trades software that can do all of the following (as per the developer):

Glary Utilities comes in two flavors: Glary Utilities Free and Glary Utilities Pro. The main differences between the two flavors as per the developer are that Glary Utilities Pro comes with:

  • Automatic care in background
  • Enhanced system fixing, optimizing and more
  • Free 24×7 Technical Support
  • Consent for commercial use Attention: This specific promotion entitles usage of Glary Utilities Pro for non-commercial use only.

So, as the title of this post says, dotTechies have the chance to get Glary Utilities Pro for free! This promotion will be open for 24 hours only – from 00:00 – 24:00 PST (Pacific Standard Time, or GMT -7) on May 12, 2010 – and everyone will receive 1 year of free updates. Note that you will only be able to grab a free license key within the 24 hour time frame, but you can use the key you get to install Glary Utilities Pro at a later date, if you wish.

Update: There was a communication problem between me and GlarySoft. We both agreed upon running the giveaway for 24 hours on May 12, 2010, but they live in China so they probably setup the giveaway for 24 hours Chinese time where as I ran the giveaway PST time (hence the giveaway “ended early”). GlarySoft and dotTech recognize this problem and apologize for it (see comment #86 for an official apology from GlarySoft). The giveaway is now open again and this giveaway has been extended by 6 hours and will now last until 06:00 PST May 13, 2010.

Anyone that has any problems or issues can e-mail GlarySoft at support [at] glarysoft.com before 0600 PST May 13, 2010 and they will be e-mailed a license. Also, any complaints can go to support [at] glarysoft.com.

Well, you’ve gone and done it again. Thanks for taking such good care of us. It stuns me at how many views you have on your posts. Better watch out or you will become an internet Icon.

Download, email, registration … everything was quick and smooth. It’s a bit extreme to pass a life sentence for one glitch. The digital world is a favorite playground for Murphy’s Law. Many times have I set out to perform a simple task that should not take more than a few minutes, only to find myself searching the Net for answers two hours later :-)

    QUESTION
Does somebody knows if we may install this software on more than one computer ?
I have been searching on the Glarysoft’s website and I didn’t found anything about it.
Also, when we install the program, we dont see any EULA which is habitually giving all the information about this question.
    Thank you.

I did not uninstall my previous version,  so it updated but remained registered to Goatd (with expiration date ‘Never’).  Any suggestions about whether I should uninstall and reinstall with DotTech key? I wonder if it has Free 24×7 Technical Support if still registered to Goatd…?

@Janet: If you already have the GOTD license you are better off keeping it as it does not seem to expire. I’ve been successfully updating the program for over a year and a half now. If you install this key instead of GOTD’s you will only be able to get updates for a year. You could always keep it for a backup though (in case of reformat) or for a different PC. I don’t think there’s any tech support for GOTD but you could always try!

    Regards, Damian.

Everytime I try to download and submit email address for key, I get sent to CNET for normal Pro version….and no provision to enter email address to get a key.
    Sad.

Go figure… received my key but upon installing the downloaded program (from the mirror, because the main site did not work) after installation I was greeted by a statement that the license belonged to “giveawayoftheday” and not given a chance to enter my own registration number. Same version, so something is very strange. Cheers.

@David Roper: is there an “abnormal” Pro version? Ashraf’s website has a link ( a button actually) to get the license key. Cheers

@Ed: If you previously downloaded and had Glary’s from a GOTD offering all you have done is updated (which you can do any time there’s an update).
The GOTD license does not expire (unless you reformat or the registration from that previous giveaway somehow gets deleted or corrupted).

I hope you will forgive my insistence; something is very strange indeed, and I can’t tell if it’s the software or the developer. I went to download and reinstall this gift from Ashraf. Again I had to use the mirror because the CNET main link is not working. The setup file was just the same. I re-installed the application, but this time, upon launching, requested that I reboot my computer. That did not happen on the first installation.
My question is: how many different versions are there of this particular release, and why do they act differently? Maybe Glary Utilities is not to be so easily trusted. Cheers.

  17. rezidue May 12, 2010 at 10:00 AM (comment permalink) -

@Ed: It’s the same installation file regardless. The license keys determine updates (length of time, etc.).
As far as rebooting goes that could be something to do with registry information,  shell extension integration or a host of other things. Sometimes it’s just a preventive measure and a reboot is not always actually necessary. The only part of the programme that could be really dangerous is the same for any application similar to this and that would be the registry cleaner (not had an issue with it myself yet).
Glary’s is a great outfit, there’s no cause for alarm (been using it since ’07 myself).

    Mr. Boss

@Everyone: I was asleep, just woke up, sorry for late reply.

I believe there was a miscommunication issue with the giveaway ending early. Me and GlarySoft agreed upon 24 hours for May 12th, but they live in China so they probably just made it 24 hours China time, while I ran the giveaway PST time. GlarySoft and I recognize this and apologize for the issue. Because of this the giveaway has been extended by 6 hours and will now last until 06:00 PST May 13 ,2010.

Anyone that has any problems or issues can e-mail GlarySoft at support [at] glarysoft.com before 0600: PST May 13, 2010 and they will be e-mailed a license. Also, any complaints can go to support [at] glarysoft.com.

    Hi Ashraf,

Here’s one for you. I followed the instructions on this page only after uninstalling the GAOTD version. I went through the process of installing and all seemed fine. However, I never got to a registration page to enter information from what my email contained.

When I checked the status tab – it showed the product was licensed to Giveawayoftheday.

I ensured I installed the correct program because that file has today’s date on it.

Any suggestions or am I okay with this?
    Thanks

    100
