What Is It and What Does It Do

Main Functionality

Grammar Nazi is a free English language learning app for Android. It helps you correct grammatical errors and learn proper English while you read. What this app does is that it automatically modifies the content of the text that you’re reading. It basically adds random grammatical errors to your text so it’s up to you to correct those errors as you read. Just tap the wrong word to replace it with the correct word and that’s it. In addition, the app also uses a scoring system to monitor your progress.

Discussion

Grammar Nazi for Android AppGrammar Nazi can be considered as a game app that focuses on the English language but what’s more important is that it helps you learn proper English grammar while you read your favorite e-books and novels. To put it simply, using this app is like hitting two birds in one stone.

The way how this app works is also very simple. As you can see on its main interface, there are different options. To add a text file to your library, you need to choose “Import”. After which, you can check the “Library” to see if there are any available text files. To load a text file, just select the entry title (ex. The Lost World) and it will be automatically loaded.

Do keep in mind that with this app, every book or text page is treated as a game level. So page one is level one, page two is level two and so on. For every level, you need to correct those randomly generated grammatical errors and your score will be based on your total number of correct answers per level. Now, if you want to monitor your overall progress, just select “Score” from the main options. There, you’ll be able to see your overall progress in different areas such as the pronouns, tenses, articles and prepositions. If you want to continue playing or reading, just select “Continue”. The app will automatically remember the last page that you’ve read. It’s that simple.

All in all, Grammar Nazi is a fun and useful app that can definitely help those who wish to learn proper English. It’s mainly focused on helping you improve your grammar. Functionality wise, the app does what it is intended to do without any notable glitches or errors. It is also very stable and responsive.

It’s just that with its current version, the app can still be improved in many ways. It would also be great if it can incorporate the ability to correct misspelled words. As for its scoring system, it’s okay but could definitely use some additional perks like achievement points and milestone badges. It would also be great if it gets to add support for other type formats such as PDFs and DOCs. Other than this, the app also needs to improve its graphics and UI design.

Conclusion and Download Link

Grammar Nazi may fall short in certain aspects but it’s definitely a good app for those who simply wish to improve the way how they write or speak English. The app is also simple enough for anyone to comprehend. It makes you learn and improve your grammar while you read. You will also know your good and bad points by evaluating your progress through its standard scoring system. So go ahead and check it out.

There are certain points when words become opposite of their meaning. Because of comments 1-3 we can now proudly add “sensitive” and “ignorance” to that list. The term “grammar nazi” is nowadays commonly known and used. Being over sensitive and trying to connect it to nazis of WWII is not only ignorant, but childish, rude and stupid thing to do. The term is not describing everything nazi’s did in WWII, but the forceful imposing of one’s will against to something seen their part as wrong grammar! There are no “word camps” or similarities to WWII events.

I could do this dissection to all 3 first comments, but hopefully one will suffice.

    OldHoxton:
Notice, how I said “stupid THING to do”, instead of blaming a person like you did? Yeah, that would be childish.
Oh, developer may or may not know what nazi means, but that’s irrelevant. Making such statement? Prejudice.
You apparently don’t know the meaning of the term “grammar nazi”. That’s ignorance.

All people are ignorant about something. Some more, some less. Politely pointing it out is all right, but being hostile just shows your own ignorance and intolerance. Certain amount of sensitivity is a good thing. But like everything else, the excessive amount of it turns it sour. Seeing something offensive too easily makes you over sensitive. If you ever find yourself searching something you can be offended, you’re not sensitive. You just enjoy being offended about everything and having martyr complex.

Some days I wonder why this current fashion of getting offended about everything has gone so far over the top.

The developer of the app called “Grammar Nazi” is either extremely ignorant or insensitive to what the name “Nazi” is associated with. The Nazis were directly responsible for starting World War 2, and the murder of millions of innocent people. Their legacy of hate persists to this day and is perpetuated by people who are ignorant, intolerant and evil.   I am truly disappointed and dismayed that you would choose to promote anything containing the name “Nazi”. I am hoping that it it is only because that you are young and not aware of the horrible connotation that the name “Nazi” represents. I am confident that you will do the right thing and remove the “Grammar Nazi” app from your recommended apps.

    Hi,
I don’t understand how you can recommend an app with that name.
Without relating to the quality of the app, I don’t understand why the developer would want to use a term that is identified with the most despicable political system responsible for genocide an unimaginable suffering.

Next time be a bit more sensitive.
