Paragon System Backup

What exactly is Paragon System Backup? As described by me in dotTech’s full review on Paragon System Backup 2010

Paragon System Backup is a snapshot backup software. What exactly is a snapshot backup software? Think of a snapshot backup software as a mesh between Windows System Restore and your favorite image backup software. Therefore, a snapshot backup software is, more or less, a software that takes regular “snapshots” (image backups) of your computer, and allows you to restore your computer to any snapshot, similar to how you restore your computer to a “restore point” with Windows System Restore.

Here is the a list of the key features of System Backup as per the developer:

(Click on image to view list in full size.)

If you want to learn about System Backup in more detail, you can read dotTech’s full review. However, when reading up on System Backup features, note that System Backup has been updated since I reviewed it; new features have been added and improvements made such as Advanced Backup Strategy Configuration (gives you more control over program parameters), Precise Scheduling (gives you more control over how to schedule automatic backups), Adjust Backup Process Priority (CPU processing priority is more intelligently controlled by the software for automatic backups so as to not burden your computer as much when creating snapshots), and Backup Object Selection (you can now select specific partitions/volumes to backup instead of being forced to backup whole computer).

Version being given out for free: v9.5 Build 9933 (04.05.10)

Free updates: No

Supported OS: Windows XP/Vista/Win7 [32-bit and 64-bit]

Use that registration information to register the software back at the installer window.

    Hi

Does Paragon have plans for further giveaways for their new Harddisk suites and Virtualization managers, or does there exist a chance it could be made?

Would really send this as one suggestion for nearest giveaways.
I mean, it is very good software to use.

I put it on the wishlist :)
    Thanks in advance Ashraf

I have downloaded Paragon System Backup yesterday without any problems, but when I had tried to use it today I have started having problems. I get an error stating:
    Automatic snapshots cannot be created
The internal storage location used to store snapshots last time, cannot be found.

I have tried to create the snapshots storage a couple of times now, but it keeps failing to be found. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

Urgent! Ashraf! Can you help to download paragon system backup? I’ve been trying hard overnight and am still sitting before my computer. I did get the free serial and then I got on with the installation, but every time it failed on the last step, the display was ” error 1722. There is a problem with the windows installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected” .Then it rolled back and  every time I tried to re download the sb95.msi(32 bit) and reinstall, but in vain.

    Ashraf,
If I am not mistaken the Paragon backup program that is like Acronis would be Paragon Backup & Recovery. I am not promoting Acronis it is just what I have been using for several years. Started out with Norton Ghost back in Win 98 days. If there is free versions that do what you need I am all for it. I was reading an article of yours about Backup & Recovery Free Edition and noticed they now have as version 10.2. Trying to figure out how it is different from Backup & Recovery 10 Compact version. with so many versions it sure makes it hard to figure out what is what. Which one is the best? Would appreciate your advise. Welcome back! Just isn’t the same when your gone.

@ Ashraf and Skye-hook – THanks for the info..yeah.. i like the SB9.5 and has been great so far.. yeah I have noticed the press F6 option and as far as I know, the WD one does not allow that.. I belive I have to get back into windows in order to get the backup back from that one.. guess Ill just hold on to these for now.. thanks again

I have used Acronis for about 6 or 7 years for image backups of drive partitions.
Not sure if any product could be any easier or better? Has never failed me yet.
Just put in Acronis disc to boot and restore your whole system or jut files if you like.
What Paragon backup software would be the closest thing to Acronis. Would like to try and see how they differ.
    Thanks

@J&T: Online Armor has a new 64bit version! It’s a Beta. And they are offering it free to Beta testers, check out Ashrafs article about it! It’s a new article.

@Ashraf,- a fast way to find that?

  8. Skye-hook

@JJ: Yeh, I love Online Armor too! I had it once a couple yrs ago & didn’t like it making installs take so long, so uninstalled, then got it again & now I love it & would be extremely upset not to have it! lol@me for the 1st time! It’s SO worth the extra time it takes sometimes on an install, not just as a firewall, but all the different things it keeps from happening in my PC! Give the Paragon offerings a try too, if you haven’t already, they are great.

  9. Skye-hook

@Ashraf: about your answer to zughad- Please read my answer to him below, & I have a question- do the other backup softwares he has have a bootup recovery wizard (it tells u just press F6 for Paragon Recovery) that will simply & easily do the recovery for him and let him use PC while making backup? Cause System Backup does. I’ve had most of Paragon products, & they gave me their new Suite even, but honestly nothing has ever worked as well & easy for me as Paragon System Backup, so I went back to that. I love it! Of course, if you have more partitions you work with, a Partition manager is best bet. the new Suite would be great for that.
Missed ya, dude! So glad you’re back! :) Stay relaxed, we need ya! :)

@Unicorn02: As I just told someone else, I myself prefer Paragon System Backup that is also being given free right now, because it has the recovery wizard/capsule that after 1st use, it shows a line at bootup that says something like “Press F6 if you want to start the Paragon Recovery Process”- it’s a wizard that will find and run your backup,(be sure if backup is on an external device, to have that hooked up to PC!) recovering your PC to exactly as it was when you made the backup. And it does simply & easily! It saved me! You can even keep using the PC while it makes your backup!I’ll never use anything else except maybe a newer better version of the same thing. I like it better than their new Suite even! I have both. I also had Backup & Recovery & Drive Backup, Partition Backups, & most everything else from Paragon, but didn’t like them as well. Even the new Suite didn’t work as well & easily for me.

  11. Skye-hook

@zugshad: You really don’t need Backup & Recovery if you have System Backup. Does kinda the same, but I myself prefer System Backup because it has the recovery wizard/capsule that after 1st use, it shows a line at bootup that says something like “Press F6 if you want to start the Paragon Recovery Process”- it’s a wizard that will find and run your backup,(be sure if backup is on an external device, to have that hooked up to PC!) recovering your PC to exactly as it was when you made the backup. And it does simply & easily! It saved me! You can even keep using the PC while it makes your backup!I’ll never use anything else except maybe a newer better version of the same thing. I like it better than their new Suite even! I have both. I also had Backup & Recovery but didn’t like it as well.

Paragon Software is quite nice, but the plethora of very similar products they offer is very confusing!
I still have Drive Backup Pro 9.5 (which is essentially 10) and this is still the best free offering I got. Featurewise only the Backup & Recovery Suite has more to offer.
Still it would be nice if they could break down their offer to just 2 products (Home and Pro). This would help a lot…

Welcome back Ashraf, we missed you dearly.  I just upgraded to Windows 7 Professional and come to find out my firewall (Outpost free) does not support Windows 7.  Without going through every firewall out there, do you have any other recommendations to use with Win 7?  Thanks again for all your time and look forward to hearing back.

  14. Sub

Thanks for this.  I lurk a lot in this ite, and have missed your reviews, and freebies.  This although good, I will have to pass on, as I have Paragon Drive Backup professional, and Paragon Partition Manager 10 from earlier freebies you’ve posted, and Easus Partition Manager Professional for free from another site.
Too many, but I can’t bear to get rid of them “just in case”.

Welcome back Ashraf I do check this site for time to time :). Tell me why do I need backup I do have 250 gig backup hard drive I just backup my files easy copy and paste that way.

@The Living Spirit: I believe they are similar, yes. What are the exact feature differences I don’t know off the top of my head.

    @Jeanjean: You are welcome!

@zugshad: Hmmm… Well B&R will give you file backing up capabilities, but otherwise than that you are well covered with the software you have already. So you don’t really need B&R I think. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

@J . L.: Hope it serves you well.

Nice giveaway, been waiting for a free snapshot program for a while now.
Comodo Time Machine seems to have a lot of bugs, and I trust Paragon more on backups anyhow.
Hope System Backup will work fine on Windows 7 64-bit with RAID.

  18. zugshad

    Hey Ashraf,

Thanks for the info.. I did run into a question since you have this up.. I already currently have/use SB 9.5 I got last weekend when they gave away for free as well.. I currently have that one set on auto backup.. I have a WD MyBook that has the WD software that does back-ups as well..

The question runs into, is it worth getting the Backup & Recovery Compact from this giveaway?? Currently both of my programs do auto backups, and I also have the EASUS Partition program that does recovery as well.. so, wondering if this program would give me anything better over them..
    What are your thoughts?

    Thanks,
    Zug
