Although never formally reviewed on dotTech, jv16 PowerTools is among the top-tier when it comes to system cleaning, maintenance, and optimization utilities. jv16 PowerTools is what I like to call a “focused” system utility. Instead of including a wide spectrum of tools, like some other system utility programs out there, jv16 PowerTools focuses on system cleaning, maintenance, and optimization features which range from registry management to privacy cleaning and everything in between. - After installation, run jv16 PowerTools 2009. You will be prompted with jv16 PowerTools 2009′s “Quick Tutorial” which will take you through some basic steps such as setting the language of the program, running an initial scan, etc. Go through the tutorial and finish it (you may want to skip the initial scan until you register the program) until you come to following the main program window:
If jv16 PowerTools 2009 was able to automatically detect the license file you downloaded earlier, instead of saying “Trial version (30 days left)” it will say “Registered to: dotTech.org”. Nice little tool, though it does take a long time to analyze things…
The only “problem” I found was a feature in the settings (transparency).
It would not let me enable it.
I know without a doubt that my computer is capable of transparency (win 7 64 bit)
So… Speed and features being disabled. Only issues I can see.
I feel stupid but how do I get the license? When I click on the license link in the article, it shows up as a text file.
Should I just copy and paste into a text file to place onto my desktop?
I was expecting a normal download event happening.

@David Roper: Try right-clicking and “Save link as…” to your desktop. The license is an .xbin file that can be installed inside the GUI or copied to the folder where you installed PT. (X:\Program Files\jv16 Power Tools\)

@David Roper: A normal download should happen. Can you please try to download it again? I changed it so it now forces a download… it should solve your problem. If it doesn’t, please right-click -> “Save Link As…”/”Save Target As…” as OldElmerFudd mentioned.

The program runs fine with one exception. It seems that every time I use Registry Cleaner the program takes 1/3 of my cpu and hangs up.
I wonder if its just me… (Wouldn’t be the first time. :/)
Fred Langa, whom I value as a computer writer even more than Ashraf (gasp! – he’s been in the business for 30+ years and is simply the best out there) tested a variety of Registry cleaners a few years ago. He showed that many were outright frauds, some were actually useful, and jv16 Powertools was the clear winner.

Thank you for a fabulous freebie, Ashraf. I used it for the thirty day trial over a year ago, and it removed thousands of useless entries from my registry. Despite the fact that I now use Revo Uninstaller to remove programs, it still removed over eight hundred entires that had been missed. A wonderful program, and its use of CCleaner style backups -instead of system restore points- makes it all the better to me. The only flaw I can see is the length of time it takes to perform registry scans, but I can easily cope with that.
