I normally wouldn’t pay for software at retail price. I usually wait for discounts. Amazon is offering this software for 49.95, which sound more reasonable.

I back up my files daily / when i feel like it / once in a blue moon, depending on the file types, i.e. personal documents are backed up daily.
I need to backup mostly personal, programming, music and research documents and files.
The 3 top features I would look for are reliability (must be able to recover backup consistently), flexibility of backups / restore (different types of backups like image or file, incremental and differential, restore to/from options), and the ability to wake the computer to run backups.
Based on the features Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 Suite, I would pay $49.95 to purchase it if I could afford it.
I don’t have any real experience with Paragon software, but I’ve read quiet frequently that they are a quality company. In the past there didn’t really seem to be anything special about them to make them stand out from the pack, but the specs for “Paragon Backup & Recovery 10 Suite” have given me reason to really want to check them out.

Currently use HDD->SSD, backup & recovery home edition. Have had issues with hot processing though. 64-bit Win7 Dell box.

I like the quality of Paragon Backup software. My main concern is that I cannot work while backup is taking place. I have to backup overnight and thus I cannot respond to problems that might come up.

I think the price is a little high (maybe by about $10?), but I am the kind of person that if I like the program, and it has a lot of useful features, and I trust the company, I am willing to pay for it.

I really liked your partitioning software. That has proved to be very useful, and it is a great program.

After a few missteps & data loss, I’ve decided to get externals for ea of my data partitions eg. Music, Games, Videos, Photos, GOTD archives & Info, etc. So I *try* to bkup each of them every month. What I’ve NOT yet done is bkup my C:\ or done an image of – which I know I should do asap!!

This program is probably worth it, but I would’t pay it, primarily bc having laptops & desktops its too expensive to buy 4-6 licenses. Recently bought a few programs bc all had *EXCELLENT* deals on quantity licensing (Revo Pro, SuperAntiSpyware Pro, ESET, …). I strongly suggest Paragon considers a multiple license offer as more & more ppl now have multiple systems.

What sort of backup?
I mostly rely on disk imaging, which has “saved my (digital) life” on a number of occasions. There are some things that seem ‘unfixable’ – one duff installation or uninstallation, system restore or other methods just don’t ‘cut it’. I’ve recovered from unbootable situations several times, some of which were my own (inadvertent!) fault.
In 14 years as a single laptop user I can’t remember anything significant I’ve lost. But I don’t do scheduled data backups, as disk imaging requires connecting an external drive. I do use ERUNT to do a daily registry backup (hangover from Win98 – remember that feature anyone?).
Keep it running..
My main focus is making sure I can recover from a non-bootable state. To that end I have a number of tools, including partition recovery, a feature which seems missing in Paragon software.
So I most often back up my Windows and Programs partitions. Planning for disaster is key- I try to keep as much personal data (like my desktop, My Documents etc) off my C partition so if disaster strikes it’s not affected. And to reduce the size of C, my %program files% path is D:\, helping to manage defragmentation and backup.
But I do back up my other partitions, arranged so some change less frequently than others.
Of course there’s always the (relatively unlikely case) that the hard disk fails.
Recently I’ve realised that using something like Laplink’s PCMover is another great backup tool for recovery (installed programs+ licenses)- but on a new PC should my laptop fail like my last two.
Features- What do I look for?
1. Reliable (not exactly a feature, but it’s useless otherwise!)
2. Bootable CD or similar
3. Incremental and differential imaging – reduces time to create an image and storage used.
In addition:
- Easy to use and navigate the GUI
- Can mount and explore images
- Comments allowed on image files
- accurate estimate of image size
- Works with ATA drives.
(My current laptop uses an ATA drive, and my Acronis True Image then simply didn’t find any drives on it. Hmm. Finding O&O DiskImage seemed to create slightly smaller images faster than Paragon’s Drive Backup and Recovery, I used that for a while, but after a few months found some bugs and peculiarities. I’ve been using Backup and Recovery 9.5 (splash screen and help = v10!) for some months.
Is it worth $49-95 to me?
First, how much is my time worth? If I can restore a PC in, say, an hour or so, compared to a mammoth Windows reinstallation, and save all the frustration, then of course, simply on that basis.
Second, compared to Acronis True Image ($79-95 – but $49-99 until Nov 30th) which has far fewer features, it’s a whole lot cheaper. And compared to O&O DiskImage, it’s a more robust ‘finished’ product.
In v10 I note they have revised the GUI- that needs to be a whole lot more intuitive as my v9.5 is aimed at technical users. I have to think where differential partition backup is every time.
So yes, definitely, although it includes features I’d probably never use like virtualising my PC.
Comments
1. In v9.5 the initial estimate of a differential backup is that of the full backup. Thus it warns the backup medium may be too small, but allows you to continue. Ok. A minute later, the 43Gb estimate is reduced to 14Gb (say). That needs to be corrected, and doesn’t appear difficult.
2. A true Wizard approach is needed to simplify the GUI, or separate it clearly into the tasks you wih to do. The mixture of partition manager, file backup and partition backup operations presented simultaneously demands familiarity with the product.
3. It’s awkward to navigate to where you want the partition backup to be saved.
I’d love this with a smart GUI!

I use windows and back up everything weekly and try to keep up with removing older copies to avoid task manager problems,and also use genie time line on other family PCs,both ways use a lot of space. I back up files and folders but would like the ability to image system. In a constant backup system I would like the ability to turn of back up easily in case you want to add an external device and not back it up for instance also set and forget , self management, and wouldnt it be great if a backup would scan itself before saving so you dont find malware , etc there later. The first things I look for are a good program with a good family purchase deal, like an earlier poster I just purchased the revo $9 deal and the super anti spyware $23 lifetime offer and the returnil 3pc $49 deal and as I have been thinking of changing to a drive copy system for backup I was looking at Paragon and watching for a good price for bulk buys that a student can afford.
paragon is an awesome product. I’ve tested the trial some time ago. very impressive.

I’ve used several Paragon products in the past (partition manager, drive copy) and have been very happy with them…they are easy to use and do what they say with no problems.
