Update: This promotion is now over. Sorry to those that missed it! To avoid missing promotions in the future, consider subscribing to dotTech: RSS Feed | E-mail | Twitter | Facebook.

This whole week has been a blast from the past; so why not end the week with a bang? In July dotTech ran a dotTech Promotion featuring the very popular WinX DVD Ripper Platinum. Now dotTech is again teaming up with Digiarty Software to bring everyone WinX DVD Ripper Platinum for free. This time around, however, we are featuring the program for Windows and Mac and we are providing the latest v6, a recent update to the program that brought quite a few changes. [NOTE: Since I am not a Mac user, I do not know if WinX DVD Ripper for Mac is v6 or not - it may have a different numbering scheme than WinX DVD Ripper Platinum (for Windows). Whatever version it is, it is the latest version offered by Digiarty Software. Furthermore, this article discusses the features of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum (for Windows); the features of WinX DVD Ripper for Mac are similar.]

For those that don’t know about WinX DVD Ripper Platinum (have you been living in a cave?!), WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is a DVD-to-all ripper that allows you to easily rip/backup DVDs to multiple different video formats, including a 1:1 copy so you can store your backups in DVD quality. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum can also bypass DRM protection and region locks. Here are the main features of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum as per the developer:

Here are all the supported input/output formats as per the developer:

If you would like to know about WinX DVD Ripper Platinum in more detail, feel free to read dotTech’s full review on WinX DVD Ripper Platinum.

For those that have a previous version of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum, here are the major changes in v6, as per the developer:

  1. Output MP4 video with AAC 2 Channels, AAC 4 Channels and AAC 6 Channels supported.
  2. Support AVI container, keeping original DVD AC3/DTS 6 Channels audio track.
  3. Output WMV and MPEG video with original DVD AC3/DTS 6 Channels audio track.
  4. Improved WMV encoder to fit the requirement of Windows Media Center. Backup DVD to WMV with AC3/DTS audio and stream to PS3 & Xbox 360.
  5. Significantly increase H.264 encoder speed. Better support for Multi-core CPU.
  6. Optimized the support for iPhone 4, iPad, iPod 4 and other iOS 4 video players.
  7. New software UI.

I don’t know if it is required or not to uninstall previous versions of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum before installing this latest version, but I highly suggest you uninstall previous versions anyway (to avoid any potential problems).

Thanks for the freebie, Ashraf. I do have a problem though, and am hoping a someone can help. I installed this offer, and I don’t know if this is related or not, but found my DVD burner is no longer working. It’s not listed as a drive in My Computer, and I can’t even get the eject button to respond. Maybe this is just a coincidence? I’m running XP sp3.

    Thanks!

Digiarty Software liked the feedback from everyone so much that they have selected four people to win lifetime licenses instead of the original three. The following people need to check their e-mail addresses for a lifetime license of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum:

    Tony Osime
    Michael
    Harold Carlson
    BAHCrocker

Note: The drawing was not random. Digiarty Software selected the people they felt gave the best feedback.

I just found this and downloaded / installed it and it registered just fine for me.

The interface is a little busy with tabs, I will agree. But for some less experienced users (and me, when I’ve not had enough sleep) it’s sometimes easier to have a tab for each permutation of conversion. It would be nice for the “active” tab to be highlighted a little more, but I can see which one it is (and my screen doesn’t look at all pink – sorry Harold!).

I love that it has a preset tab for converting to Zen. I’ve had no luck finding anything with a preset for that and I love my little Zen.

One thing that would be nice in a future version would be the ability to set in “Options” to NOT show some of the tabs. Turn them off, so to speak. I don’t have an iPod/iPhone/iPad/iTV/iCan Opener a PSP or a Zune and I’ll probably never want to make a DVD into FLV or MOV (someone might, just not me) – so I could get rid of half the tabs right there and streamline the interface right off. Many people wouldn’t want some subset of the tabs like my delightful little Zen tab, so they could make their own customizations. Just a thought…

Thanks so much for offering this Digiarty Software! And thanks for helping us to get our hands on it Ashraf and dotTech!!

@a simple happy man, @AlanR, @Mario, @Denis F : I don’t know if having a new version installed with an old code will cause any problem in the future.- I’ve uninstalled my old version using Revo Uninstaller.- Then I’ve RESTARTED my PC.- Then I’ve installed the new version.- When finished, it asked me for the code.- Now, I have a new version with a new code installed.

@ashraf : Thank you very much for this excellent software.
Greetings from Lima, Peru, South America.
    Sorry for my english.

I have been using a competitors software for the past three years for all my copying needs. I tried WinX DVD Ripper Platinum and think it is great. I will be using this software from now on. It has a lot of great features. I really like that you can convert a DVD to all the other formats. My other software did not do this. Great job. Thank you.

    @Dee

    Thanks Dee.

It is good to know that the running time can be automatically added to the output file name. This is a nice feature.

There are times when I want to put 2 or more films on one CD or DVD disk. Knowing the estimated output size in advance of the conversion will reduce the trial and error involved when you only know the output size after each conversion.

What I would like is an estimated output size before conversion and better still, an option to allow me to set the output size then the program sets the best quality settings for that size.

    Thanks again for the tip.

    Thanks Ashraf & Digiarty,

Great product would be awesome as a portable version too.

I second Michael for the possibility to create our own profiles.

    @ Tony Osime
In Options /Target file name, you can auto add the output clip duration, and other info to set your preferred template.

Found I had already downloaded V6.0, but had failed to register it. So I uninstalled, and reinstalled, but it never asked for a code. It indicates it is a registered copy though. I tried it out and works wonderfully.. Thanks again Ashraf.

  9. Mario

Uninstaled previous build with Revo Pro, installed the new one. Did not asked for key. It used previous key by itself. It says it is registered with the previous key. Question : should the previous key be removed and updated with the new one?

  10. Jeffinprov

Terrific! I had, and liked the earlier version. Not only am I grateful for the Windows update, but was delighted to install it on my partner’s damned Mac. From what planet are derived the people who find Macs to be intuitive and simple?

    Hi Ashraf and all

I forgot that WinX is installed in the Windows Startmenu as Digiarty and as I didn’t see WinX I ended up installing v6.0 over the top of V5.20 that i had from Softpedia.

Funnily enough WinX recognised my old license and accepted it so now i have v6.0 from dotTech with another license.

  12. Michael

In my opionion, WinX DVD Ripper Platinum is one of the best Ripper of the world. In the Version 6 it’s easier to use, the user interface is really clear, althoug you have all the important setting on it.
What I would enjoy: The possibility to create own profiles, for ripping.
Adding some languages (e.g. german) would be very nice, too (I would be willing to help translating in german).

All in all it’s a fantastic software, which I really like to use.

Thank You dotTech for this great offer.

    Best regards (from Germany),
    Michael

Don’t normally post, but I love this s/w! Been using it for about a year, upgraded several times (thanks to dotTech and GOTD) and it just keeps getting better. Keep up the great work, Digiarty. And welcome back, Ashraf – you rock! Thank you.

    1) The format tab we select should be much darker and the format title should also appear at the top of the options. This makes it easier to know which format you are using.

    2) The estimated size of the final file should be stated for our reference.

    3) To take item 2 a step further, offer settings that will allow us to reach a target final file size which we specify.

  15. Harold Carlson

I have two suggestions. Somewhat still “shooting from the hip” as I have not extensively used your program.

    1) The screen shows up as pink in color — this is not a real “man” color. Maybe have colors by gender! (sorta kidding on that – but)

    2) I evaluate a lot of software and have been slaving away on computers for 25 years — one thing I see is that just because we have all these fancy GUI options menus get “OVER-GUI’D” (for the record I hold the “patent” on that word. I LOVE KISS. I LOVE TOP TO BOTTOM LEFT HAND BAR OPTIONS THAT LEAD TO SUB-OPTIONS.
ps I’m getting old so I avoid places like Subway! Ha!! (Funny to me at 3:am) So I hope I win the award. I am humbled by people that can program stuff and then market it too! WOW
