How to root Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 LTE SM-G7105 on Android 4.4.2 [Guide]

samsung-galaxy-grand-2These are the instructions to root Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 LTE SM-G7105 smartphones running on the Android 4.4.2 KitKat software update.

REQUIREMENTS

  • The following guide is made for the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 LTE variant that has the SM-G7105 model number only. You can check what model number your device has by tapping on the Menu > Settings > About Device > Model Number.
  • The CF-Auto-Root package in this guide is made for the Grand 2 LTE running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and the firmware KOT49H.G7105XXUBNI2 build ID. While we do advise you follow this guide running on Android 4.4.2 KitKat as the title suggests, you do not need to be running on the KOT49H.G7105XXUBNI2 build number. That number is given by Chainfire as an indicator. Some Samsung devices will not boot old images.

BEFORE WE BEGIN

  • Download and install the Samsung USB Drivers on your computer so the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 can connect and communicate with programs like the Odin flashing tool.
  • Enable the USB Debugging Mode on your Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 device by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.

HOW TO ROOT SAMSUNG GALAXY GRAND 2 LTE SM-G7105 RUNNING ON ANDROID 4.4.2

  1. Download the CF-Auto-Root for the G7105 on Android 4.4.2 from this link.
  2. Drag the zip file over to the desktop and extract the file on the desktop.
  3. Double-click on the Odin executable file that is on the desktop and your Odin flashing tool will open.
  4. Turn off the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 smartphone and reboot it in download mode.
  5. Connect the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 smartphone to the computer using the USB cable you normally use to charge the battery.
  6. You should see the “added” message from the Odin app on the computer if your device is connected properly.
  7. Click the PDA or the AP button you can see from the Odin flashing tool’s user-interface.
  8. Browse the desktop location for the file ending in tar.md5 for your Grand 2 LTE smartphone.
  9. Do not adjust any of the default settings of the Odin flashing tool on your computer.
  10. Click the Start button and Odin will flash the rooting exploit on your Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 LTE smartphone.
  11. keep watching the Grand 2’s display for when it tells you that the device is about to automatically reboot in about 10 seconds.

The Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 LTE smartphone will now reboot automatically in recovery mode; this is an important part of the process and without it the guide will not have worked in successfully rooting your device. Anyone who does not get to recovery mode can manually get there instead by holding the Power + Home + Volume Up buttons during the booting process. It only works on the Grand 2 if you start with the device off first.

Sometimes new software updates that roll out for the Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 can bring new bootloaders. When that happens it is possible that the device will not boot because Chainfire hasn’t yet updated the necessary files to deal with the new bootloaders. You can report any devices that are not booting over at the official CF-Auto-Root thread at XDA Developers.
