Free WinUtilities v9.97! [Update: link removed]

March 10, 2011 49 Email article | Print article

UPDATE: As it turns out, this is actually a magazine freebie, and as such, the link has been taken down. We have a strict no-magazine policy here at dotTech.  Thanks Joanna for the notification!

Software Description

The following description is form the publisher’s site:

WinUtilities is an award winning collection of tools to optimize and speedup your system performance. this suite contains utilities to clean registry, temporary files on your disks, erase your application and internet browser history, cache and cookies. it also supports to defragment your disk drives and improve computer performance and stability. built-in StartUp Cleaner allows you to control startup programs that load automatically with windows, find duplicate files, fix broken shortcuts and uninstall unneeded software. other features include secure file deletion, recycle bin shredding, system maintenance tasks scheduling and undelete deleted files.

dotTech Advice

As Ashraf would probably say, “grab it before it’s gone”.  That said, here’s exactly what he has to say:

When I first used WinUtilities three years ago, WinUtilities was one of the better software in its class. Ever since then I have seen WinUtilities grow and become even better with each new update. While I personally prefer to use specialized software for many tasks that WinUtilities does – such as CleanMem, CCleaner, RevoUninstaller, WinPatrol, East-Tec Eraser, AxCrypt, and Auslogics Defrag – WinUtilities is one of the best  “system utilities” out there and I highly recommend it to anyone that wants or needs it.

Gawd knows, I’ve banged on about this before, but never mind, here I go again:

Can something be done about the accreditation formating on Dot Tech articles?

It really irritates to keep encountering posts from people thanking Ashraf when Ashraf didn’t write the article or asking Ashraf how he is when Ashraf isn’t here to respond.

Credit for this article today is, and not for the first time, to Locutus, who’s doing a great job while Ashraf is busy with other matters.

Had version 9.72 Had to uninstall and then install the newer version. Still looking to see what is different. Do like this program. It is a nifty all-in-one to have.
Thanks Locutus for the heads up!

Many thanks, Locutus (I’m not sure why people are having such a problem seeing who the article is from …)–and good to see some action and developments here at the site-it’s been missed!

For what it’s worth for others, in updating from a dotTech offer last April, I didn’t have to uninstall the old version. I simply started it and then used the dropdown menu at the very right, chose Change registration key, entered the new offer program name and license key information, and then used the update button to get and then install the newest version over the old (having exited the program first)–worked just fine that way.

    Thanks, again!

I installed from the above link right over my existing version (9.96 GAOTD pro version) and the new version came out already registered (still to GAOTD)! I just installed it to the same folder.

@Jyo: I would’ve posted that as my source link, but I actually did get it from TipRadar first.

Thank you for the info. This could come in handy for after a format or a fresh install. For those that got version 9.96 from GAOTD, check the expiration date and it will say “never”. You are free to download updates and install as janet did above.

@Locutus: Oh, I didn’t mean it that way. I just wanted to acknowledge the forum poster’s efforts :-) (though I could’ve just done that there, but since I’m already here…)

This is not a legitimate promotion. It is a Polish newspaper readers who purchase some computer magazine. This is not a promotion for everyone.

I must have missed out on this one. I downloaded the program immediately on receiving the advice by email. Could only download the free trial version. I used the link in the email but the download screens were entirely different. Could not register the downloaded version.

    @Flyfisher:
Just downloaded the pro version as a giveaway, so it’s still working fine when clicking on the blue ‘download’ under “INSTRUCTIONS” in above text…
I had an older version and this one installed itself instead automatically, registered and all too! So didn’t have to enter a licensekey now either, maybe that makes a difference?
Hope you’ll succeed too, after all. Good luck! ;-).
