Free Acronis True Image Personal 2010! [24-hours only]

January 19, 2012 27 Email article | Print article

Update: Looks like this is for USA and Canada only. Sorry people from other countries!

Software Description

The following is a description of Acronis True Image Personal 2010, as per DownloadCrew:

Photos, music, documents, emails – your PC is packed with valuable files, any of which could disappear in a heartbeat if your hard drive is corrupted. It’s a very good idea to protect yourself by running regular backups, then. And Acronis True Image Personal 2010 provides everything you need to get started.

If you’re only looking to back up the essentials, for instance, the program’s File Backup wizard will quickly walk you through the necessary steps. Check a few boxes to select your most important folders, choose your backup destination (a local, external or network drive), and the program could be ready to go in under a minute. Spend just a moment more configuring the scheduler and True Image Personal 2010 will in future run the same backup job entirely automatically, without you having to do anything else at all.

For a more comprehensive approach, then you could always opt to back up an entire partition. It’s just as easy to set up, and again can be scheduled to run automatically, so you can have your system regularly backed up with the absolute minimum of hassle.

And if you prefer online backups then they’re also supported, although you’ll have to subscribe to the Acronis online backup service before you can use this.

If disaster strikes at any point, then there are many ways to recover your files. You can restore entire backups, for instance. There’s an option to mount an image so you can restore just the files and folders you need. If Windows won’t boot, then you can launch the Startup Recovery Manager and access a backup. And, of course, there’s also the option to create a bootable rescue disc which will quickly have your PC back to normal.

And you even get some useful bonus tools, including an SSD Trim tool, and a file shredder which can securely delete confidential files.

Despite all this power, True Image Personal 2010 is actually a cut down version of the regular application. There’s no support for incremental or differential backups, for instance; the scheduler only supports a “weekly” option; and the program can’t run the System State, Email or Application Settings backup type. These options are still displayed on the menus, but are greyed out. If you’d like to upgrade and get access to all of these features, and more, click “Get the full version” on the toolbar and follow the instructions.

dotTech Advice

Because of lack of time, I have not downloaded Acronis True Image Personal 2010 from this giveaway. However, I did do a review on it back in 2009 when I used it in my comparison of Paragon Backup & Restore Free vs Macrium Reflect Free vs EASEUS Todo Backup vs DriveImage XML vs Acronis True Image Home. Based off that comparison, I’d have to say grab Acronis True Image Personal 2010 while you can. It may be an old version and some features are limited, but it is nice.

This giveaway offer is only available to residents of the United States and Canada. Sorry, but that was one of the restrictions placed on this promotion by Acronis, Inc who authorized this promotion.

The 2010 version seems to work, although if you don’t click the “right” buttons, it won’t. It’s add-on pak (which I assume is not being given away) made 2010 useless, so don’t think of getting it. Also, my experience with the 2011 version was horrible. Finally, I have not had to restore my system, so I don’t know how well 2010′s restore works.

P.S. You have to decide between differential and incremental backups. One will eat up a lot of space on your backup drive, while the other will take longer to restore everything.

    Acronis,
    Macrium (MY personal favourite)
and others DID have “Dottech” giveaways severasl times before- and not limited to “country” or citicenship.
Just grab the next one that is posted here :-)
(Meaning: those “limitations” are NOT important and NOT worth a lot of discussions!!)
A firm decide to give a freebeee with limitations- THAT is their right!
    (I am a Norwegian… :-)

Probably not worth installing anyway according to the following comments:

This version of ATI2010 appears to be way too cut-down. May as well use Windoes 7 backup or one of the Paragon freebies previously given away. If if you can’t do incremental file backups, then it can take an eternity to backups lots of files.

I’m not surprised Acronis is finally providing a giveway. They’ve been losing lots of customers in the home user segment. Do a google search and you’ll find page after page of complaints regarding all the bugs that came with ATI2010 for W7 users in particular.

@NickK: Which is why after buying 2009 I skipped 2010 and bought 2011 Home, which was the first version officially working with Win7. For what I’ve need it for 2011 works fine, although I don’t use it as often as I should.

No problems with download and installation. In the first window you enter name, email address, etc., and the first serial code (with no hyphens or spaces) that you get from the download page. Clicking on “Submit” button initiates an email to the email address you provided with a second (supposed to be different?) serial code to enter into the product activation window. In my case the second serial was the same as the first, and I could not get the program to activate.

Has anyone else had this problem? How do I fix it?

    Thanks!

Ashraf you did a review of ATI Home 2010 but this version is called “Personal”. It’s a cut down version of Home and has many features not available. The upgrade to 2012 is not bad for $19.99 since they throw in the Plus Pack. Really, that’s all this promo is about (to download a crippled version in hope a person pays to upgrade).

“Please follow the instructions below about how to get your code. You receive a unique “stub code” after registering here and, using your unique stub code, insert this in to Acronis True Image Personal 2010 to get your full code, direct from Acronis.(And then, underneath,it says….)”Acronis True Image Personal 2010 requires activating before you’ll be able to use it. Getting a serial code is a two-stage process. Firstly, login here and click the blue “GET SERIAL CODE” button. Next, install and launch Acronis True Image Personal 2010, click “Get key” within the application and complete the form (please use the same email address as you used to register here) to receive your full activation key, making sure to enter the code from this page in the “StubKey” box. ( I don’t know if this clears the serial registration process up for anyone- I considered getting this, but after reading all the reviews, decided against it. They can keep this one.

Am in the USA (Montana) & have tried to download the product 17 time. Each time it crashes between 60 & 80% completion. Did get the activation key which is rather useless without the product. Am currently happily using Easus Todo & thought I would try Acronis but it doesn’t sound like I’m missing a lot.

@Michael Vanier: I followed the instructions precisely – several times. Maybe they reached the limit on how many they wanted to give away. I, too, read the negative comments (many thanks to all the dottechies who post!) but wanted to download it because i believe it includes a rescue disk.

    Thanks again, everybody!

i am so glad to miss this SW…i have bought acronis true image home only thinking that it will let me do what i wanna do but it doesn’t!
1st of all, if you have win7 and if you want disk image (aka entire system backup), just use built-in program (very easy), no need to go for 3rd party.
if you want files and folders backup, acronis is outrageous as it does not let you get a backup like “pie to pie” (5 folders having 15 files could be backed up like you see them in windows explorer), acronis uses proprietary file format .tib and .zip format. WTH?
