The following is a description of Advanced Uninstaller PRO, as per the developer:

Advanced Uninstaller PRO has a lot of features which help you really take charge of the inner workings of your computer and control what’s going on inside the delicate software architecture of your PC:

  • Uninstall programs quickly and completely, with full disk and registry clean-up to remove leftovers. Way better than the standard Windows uninstaller!
  • Installation monitor. Examine all the items an application has installed on your PC, and make 101% sure all of them were removed.
  • Startup Manager – manages all Windows startup areas. Fully control what gets started when you turn on your PC.
  • Windows Services – control the services (background processes) that are run by Windows.
  • Quick Cleaner – erase the web browsing history and the history traces of over 200 programs. Don’t let other people who use your computer find out which web sites you visit! Keep your secrets secret!
  • Start Menu Cleaner – fully clean-up your Start Menu, eliminate all the shortcuts that don’t work anymore.
  • Start Menu Items Manager – show and hide start menu items, sort them alphabetically, etc.

dotTech Advice

Advanced Uninstaller PRO can be best described as RevoUninstaller + Comodo Programs Manager + CCleaner in one package. Like RevoUninstaller, Advanced Uninstaller PRO has the ability to cleanly uninstaller programs by scanning for leftover files, folders, and registry entries. Like Comodo Programs Manager, Advanced Uninstaller PRO has the ability to monitor installations and record changes made to the computer, providing the ability to undo all those changes during installation. Like CCleaner Advanced Uninstaller PRO has the ability to clean junk files and clean the registry. In addition to all that it has other useful tools, too, like a secure file deleter (aka what Eraser does) and a startup manager (aka what WinPatrol or Autoruns can do).

Overall, Advanced Uninstaller PRO is a good program because it provides multiple tools in one package, all of which perform decently. However, if you want the best performance, I’d suggest you go with specialized software. For example, for installation monitoring Advanced Uninstaller PRO force users to wait while it scans your computer before and after a program installation; Comodo Programs Manager does not — it is a lot more seamless; Advanced Unisntaller PRO only supports Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome – no Opera – when cleaning Internet traces whereas CCleaner supports all four major browsers; the secure file deleter has limited selection in types of secure deletions algorithm with a maximum of 7 repetitions — Eraser offers more flexibility plus the ability to go portable; the startup manager doesn’t allow users to delay startup programs/processes, such as what WinPatrol does; etc. Really the highlight of Advanced Uninstaller PRO is its clean uninstalling capabilitie but then the question is why use Advanced Uninstaller PRO when we all know RevoUninstaller is safe and works well? The only reason I can think of is RevoUninstaller Free not fully supporting 64-bit and you not wanting to fork up the money for RevoUninstaller PRO.

Feel free to grab Advanced Uninstaller PRO if you want it. It is, after all, a good program. Personally speaking, however, I’ll stick to the alternative software mentioned above and you should consider doing the same.

    v10.63 has been released on the 10th May 2012, and as far as monitoring the process of an installation is concerned, this version actually works, whereas v10.62 to put it simply was CRAP as it just hung and hung and hung.

    with 10.63 you can actually have browsers and other programs open and the installation will be monitored as well as any of the previous v10 licensed versions I own monitored an install.

    I thoroughly recommend the program, and who knows, they may actually allow previous owners a discount when the new version 11 is released, which I would imagine will be around the time of the release of Windows 8.

    - – - – - A – - – - – Warning – - – - – about – - – - – 1 – - – - – feature – - – - – worth – - – - – noting – - – - –

    There is only 1 problem I have discovered with version 10 and that is when you click on the “Installation Monitor” button on the first window, a second “Monitored Installations” windows will open and then you can click on the top (1st of 3) button titled “Start Installation Monitor” which will then place an icon in the System Notification or System Tray area (usually found in the bottom right-hand corner).

    You can then opt to either monitor the installations automatically (usually a bad choice as it often takes often a large amount of processing resources) or manually.

    This “Start Installation Monitor” icon and feature CAN’T BE SWiTCHED OFF from the same “Monitored Installations” window and if something happens and you loose the system tray icon or you have to kill the monitor process using Windows Task Manager then the only way I have found to restart the monitor installations feature is through a reboot, which can be a real pain.

    I reported this problem to Innovative Solutions on a few occasions and suggested that they needed to make the top button a switch on and switch off button for the reason I have specified, but I do not know if it will be implemented in version 11.

    Perhaps it is possible to discover the actions of the Monitor Installations system tray EXiT function but I have not managed to follow the correct thread so that the Monitor Installations function and its accompanying icon could be re-enabled or switched off a will.

    @dolph:
    I’m interested to know whether the feature to monitor in real time the changes a software made during installation, is still there. I’m using Ashampoo uninstaller 4, that also makes snapshots before and after the installation, which takes quite some time; very annoying. When uninstalling a program with Ashampoo Uninstaller you can see what it is going to delete from the registry, but you cannot deselect any item. Recently I saw it was going to delete a directory, belonging to an other program. The only thing I could do is not allowing it to delete anything. How is that in Advanced Uninstaller PRO?

    @Ruchir Bansal:

    I was under the assumption that Martau’s Total Uninstall was the best uninstaller out there.

    http://www.martau.com/

    It’s not free but when it comes to monitoring installs, it’s usually brought up as the first option if you want to pay.

    The one thing that I question with any of these programs that monitor the full install is whether they can handle frequent updates. Security programs, Adobe flash, Java, browsers, email packages are constantly asking to update for security and bug fixes. How many of these programs will actually find the loads of obscure registry strings that are being added during these updates?

    Does anyone know why these types of programs can not be pinned to the Start Menu or Taskbar? This one had an option during installation to create a shortcut on the Taskbar,but once installed,just like Revo,Free or Pro,it can only be accessed from the desktop shortcut(created during installation),or from the All Programs menu.There is no “pin to” option in the context menu.Anyone?

    Theyve always had a free version which offers just about all of the features of the registered. The main difference is the ability to enable/disable browser extensions … not a very big deal

    It is clearly the second best uninstaller after Revo pro but for free users,and who install,uninstall frequently and new apps,it will be a mind blowing utility.It was and is better looking,polished and much more functions than Revo.Revo pro has only uninstall functions,rest are pathetic.An extremely useful Swiss knife which will prove useful to all,I am sure.Where one needs special component like CCleaner for better cleaning,one can always have.
    By the way,current giveaway by Ghacks for Amigo360 is going on and at least this version is terrific,also a very smart and an excellent Swiss knife.
    BTW full stable installer of Chrome 18 available at Softpedia.
    Thanks

    @Ashraf: sorry but I cannot find it. I only see the feature that works by making registry and disc snapshots and comparing them after the software install. They had one to monitor in real time like ComodoProgramsManager.

  9. dolph

    Thanks for the article Ashraf. I clearly remember in previous Pro (paid versions) they had a feature to monitor in real time the changes a software made during installation. However it looks like they took it away in this free Pro version. :-(
