About iOS Apps of the Day

iOS has over 600,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our iOS Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! [Subscribe to our iOS section to never miss an article: RSS Feed | E-mail]

Just Paint

Just Paint is a drawing app that creates images of your own creation right from your device. This has all that you need to create your own drawing which can be emailed to you or anyone else interested right from the app. You can draw, paint, clip which also comes with a lot of other features just like you would have any any desktop photo creation/editing program. The only thing missing is that there is no eraser, but there is a way to remove things using the paint brush icon. This app can add layers to your image, and it can handle up to 10 layers. You can also scroll to view all the hidden functions on the bottom of the screen, and you also have the capability to undo and redo things although there is a 15 count limit.

This may not be the easiest thing to create your drawings on an iPhone or iPod Touch, but it might work pretty well with the iPad.

Astronomy Picture of the Day

Astronomy Picture of the Day is an app that shows you gorgeous pictures of certain star systems and other things that we can see from space. All pictures are hand selected by NASA astronomers to show you the beauty of what is out in space. You can jump to photos by date, save them to your photo roll or share them with friends. You can even save the latest Hubble photo as your background. Astronomy can be neat and this would be ideal for anyone who loves to look up in the night sky and see all the wonders around us.

Air Hockey Gold

Air Hockey Gold is an air hockey game that has the look and feel of the real game. You can play this against the computer or play against someone else. As always to win the game you have to be the first to score 7 points. The one thing that makes this unique is that you can play 1 or 2 pucks at one time. Granted this doesn’t have the same feel as the regular air hockey game you play, but it can be fun. The only other thing that doesn’t work well is that playing against someone else on an iPhone or iPod Touch might be a little strange since it is on a small screen. It might be better to play against someone else using an iPad, or just play against someone else via the Bluetooth although this will not work with first generation iPhone or iPod Touch devices.

Even though there are ads in this game you can buy the full version Air Hockey by Accleroto and not wind up with ads which only show up after you’ve finished a game.
