About Android Apps of the Day

Android has over 450,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our Android Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! Apps for April 27, 2012

WootWatcher

WootWatcher is an app that notifies users of daily deals from Woot.com. The main daily deals are supported as well as the side deals like Kids.Woot. The app displays the name and image of whatever deal is going on at the moment; and there is a ‘Buy’ button that takes you to Woot’s website to purchase the product. Push notifications are supported so you don’t even have to manually check the app yourself.

Take note the developer of WootWatcher has an affiliate account with Woot. That means every time you purchase an item from within WootWatcher, the developer gets a small cut of the sale. The developer being an affiliate with Woot does not affect your purchase in any way shape, form, or fashion — it is just something that some people like to know about. Also note if you have an ad blocker installed you may be blocked from using the ‘Buy’ button because the link is routed through a tracking website.

Find difference

Find difference is a game for Android in which the goal is to identify the differences between two similar images. You are displayed two images together with you having to identify what are the differences between the top and bottom images by tapping on the differences in the bottom image. Every pair of images has five differences between them and if you identify all five within the allotted time, you progress to the next pair. If, however, you don’t find all five differences, it is game over and you need to start again. Take note that wrong taps (i.e. tapping on parts of the images that aren’t different) lowers a chunk of your allotted time.

iSlash

iSlash is a slasher puzzle game for Android. What exactly is a ‘slasher puzzle’ game? In iSlash each stage consists of a shape object with shurikens floating in it. The goal is to slash/cut the shape until the bamboo stick at the top of the screen is reduced to the red marker. The catch is you cannot make any slash/cut that separates the shurikens inside the shape. You have to cut the shape in such a way that all shurikens stay together; and if you accidentally touch a shuriken while slashing, it is game over.

There are powerups you can use for each stage, such as a bomb which removes a shuriken or a time stop which slows the shurikens. You are given a default number of powerups and as you progress you get more. Or, if you are impatient, you can make in-app purchase for powerups.

What makes iSlash interesting is the evolving game play. For example, at first you start with simple shapes of which you can cut from any side or corner. Later in the game there are metal-tipped sides which you cannot cut unless you use a special metal-tipped slasher powerup.
