About iOS Apps of the Day

iOS has over 600,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our iOS Apps of the Day [6] initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! Apps for June 8, 2012

30/30

[9]30/30 will help keep you on track with the time it takes to finish what task you are doing at the moment. You set up your tasks and include the time it would take to finish it which the app will move on to the next, and the timer will start all over again with how long the next task is assigned. The gear icon next to the app’s version number in the top left corner will give you a little more detailed information about how to use the app instead of the quick reference you see at the start of the app. There are a bunch of gestures from deleting the task, creating a new one and editing a task as well as changing the time length.

Pi – The App

[12]Pi – The App is about everything you need to know about what Pi really is, or you are just an enthusiast that really enjoys knowing all the ins and outs of Pi. This app features real time calculation of Pi, as it calculates it will show eat digit by animating it before it is placed at the end, displaying the total calculated decimal places, displaying the total calculation time, and you can share your information on Facebook or email. If you keep the app open, it will still keep calculating which will run the battery down greatly, and the developer notes that it will take “forever.” This app also might be great if you are celebrating Pi Day every March 14th.

Price: $0.99 [13]

Version discovered: 1.1

Requires: iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad; iOS 4.0 and up

3D Mini Golf Challenge

[15]3D Mini Golf Challenge will give you the opportunity to win each challenge you are given for each level. You play 4 different types of challenge types with 20 challenges and over a course of 100 holes. These challenge types are Par Challenge, Time Challenge, Hole-In-One, and Verses where you compete against the computer. There are 4 different themes you will come across which are Excalibur, Transylvania, Pirate’s Cove, and Super Nova. You get to choose what type of player you want whether that be male of female, and this game includes realistic mini golf physics.

There are four different in-app purchases where you can add two more mini golf courses and adding two different packs. The 3D Beach Mini Golf adds 50 unique holes using the Par Challenge and the Time Attack, and the 3D Mini Golf retreat adds 40 unique holes using only the Par Challenge. The add-on packs are 20 Points Pack which adds points to your game so you could use those points to unlock challenges ,and 15 Ace Pack which will instantly finish a track with a hole-in-one that you only get 15 Aces at a time. Each course and add-on packs cost $0.99 each. It should be noted that even though this app costs $1.99 normallyt this app has been free since May 24, 2012. Also even though this was paid to free for a limited time, there are some pretty annoying nag screens of getting other games/apps from the same developer before you start playing the game so it is unclear if this was included when this app was paid.

Price: $1.99 [16]

Version discovered: 1.0.15

Requires: iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad; iOS 3.0 and up

Download size: 43.1 MB

dotTechies: We have tested all the apps listed above. However, iOS Apps of the Day articles are not intended as “reviews” but rather as “heads-up” to help you discover new apps. Always use your best judgement when downloading apps, such as trying trial/free versions before purchasing paid apps, if applicable.
