About iOS Apps of the Day

iOS has over 600,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our iOS Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! [Subscribe to our iOS section to never miss an article: RSS Feed | E-mail]

WorldHoliday

WorldHoliday updates your calendar with the holidays for a few countries so you will know what holiday is coming up without looking at a paper calendar. This app can update holidays for Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Portugal, Singaport, the United Kingdom, and the United States. If you’ve accidentally added the wrong country, you can delete that from the app and fix your calendar back to what it was.

Even though the app’s page says that it has Malaysia, it doesn’t according to not only a reviewer, but it is also in one of the app’s screenshots. Another minor issue is that even though the header says the correct year, the individual entries are not. This shouldn’t discourage you from using it as it is the correct day of that holiday for that year. The last thing is that it only updates holidays for 2012 and 2013 so you might have to wait for an update in order to go further than 2013.

Cubis Creatures

Cubis Creatures is the same game as the original Cubis game that you might have played for free on the web. This time it has a story line of sleeping creatures.  Each creature has a number of different levels that you need to clear to “wake up” the creature you are trying to save. The same basis of the game is exactly like the original which is matching three or more colors to clear the board. You are allowed a certain number to fill a meter, and if you clear the board while filling up the meter completely you will get bonus points for doing it perfectly. You get 80 different levels with more additional ones for the in-app cost of $0.99 each. This game also includes a daily Cubis tournament which will have your skills on the line with others online to see who is the best.
