Gingerbread is the most used Android platform; Ice Cream Sandwich currently third with 10.9% share

Android Developers Dashboard has been updated with the usage details of different Android platforms by users. Primarily prepared to be a reference for developers to help decide on their future programming plans, the newly published chart show that Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is currently the most used Android platform.

Gingerbread tops the list with almost 64% share of the total active Android devices. Froyo (Android 2.2) has 17.3%, which enables it to grab the second position. Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) comes in at the third with around 10.9% of the pie. The shares of older platforms were negligible with Eclair (Android 2.1), Donut (Android 1.6), and Cupcake (Android 1.5) at 4.7%, 0.5% and 0.2% respectively. The data is based on usage details up to June 2, 2012 so Jelly Bean data is not included and, if even if it was, it would probably be negligible.

The statistics also indicate that the number of ICS supported devices is on the rise (obviously expected). Though Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) had been released officially during the Google I/O 2012 developer meet, no data on it is yet available (as mentioned above). However, the coming of Jelly Bean is also expected to fasten the death of the older versions of Android.

Which Android platform are you running on? Does your device support ICS? Are you expecting Jelly Bean for your device? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below.
