About Android Apps of the Day

Android has over 450,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our Android Apps of the Day initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! Trippin

Looking for a way to plan your date or trip? Trippin is a free Yelp-powered app that lets you select, review, and add destinations to your list for the day, even taking into account travel time.

Trippin is fairly easy to use. You start off by making a Trip. You can search for places to add to your trip–say, Disney World–and then add places to visit after that–say, iFly. Trippin will automatically calculate how long it’ll take you to go from place to place, and plan your day accordingly. It’s great for anyone who constantly forgets what time they’re supposed to go where.

Overall, Trippin is a nice app if you’re terrible at planning your day. Its ability to share itineraries is nice, too, as you can easily share trips with anyone going with you.

CeeBee

CB radio is extremely useful, but its declining use in the 21st century combined with its relatively short-range broadcasting abilities have taken its use down a notch. CeeBee is an app designed to combat that decline: it’s a modern approach to two-way radio using the internet instead of a radio transmitter.

CeeBee is a free “radio” app that uses the internet to emulate radio channels. You can create channels, and your Facebook friends can see which channels you’re on. You don’t have to enable Facebook support, but it makes channel discovery easier. You can simply tell your friends the channel names for them to connect.

CeeBee also lists popular local and global channels. You can have a rowdy discussion about your local sports teams (go team A!), or have a nice chat about the traffic… and the location of the nearest speed trap. With CeeBee, the sky’s the limit!

Scan

There are thousands of QR code apps available for Android, and each has its own distinct advantages and disadvantages. We covered this exact topic over a year ago, but since then, the market has changed significantly. Scan, a relatively new scanning app, is beautifully designed and has all the requisite features of a great barcode/QR scanner–and more.

Scan is distinct from most other scanning apps in that it’s integrated with Scan.me, the developer’s online code creator and sync’r. Its creator allows you to even create your own web pages for businesses, business cards, and more. It can also simply connect you to a website or WiFi connection. The QR codes are hosted on Scan.me, enabling you to change their destination whenever you want, and are available for download in whatever format you want (including vector). \

The app too has many features. It’s extremely easy to use: you open it, and it’s instantly ready to scan. No need to tap a scan button: the camera opens right up. Once a code is scanned, it intelligently decides what to do. Websites are automatically opened, text is displayed, and for other content it’ll prompt you for input.

Scan is more than just a QR code scanner. It can also read regular barcodes (UPC, EAN, or ISBN), and will gather relevant information based on the product you scanned. Once scanned, it also lets you synchronize all of your data to their website, allowing you to access it from the web or other devices.

If you’re looking for a beautiful, impressive barcode or QR code scanning app, there’s really no competition. As of right now, Scan is the best QR code reader there is on Android Market Google Play.
