About Android Apps of the Day

Android has over 450,000 apps. With so many apps out there, app discovery (aka finding new and useful apps) is extremely difficult. With our Android Apps of the Day [6] initiative, dotTech aims to change that. Everyday we post three apps, allowing our readers to discover new apps, daily. Enjoy! Apps for August 15, 2012

Quantro

[9]Puzzle games are no match for you. You’ve long since mastered Tetris, beaten every Sudoku game your Sudoku app randomly generated, and laughed in the face of Minesweeper. However, there’s a new sheriff in town, and its name is Quantro: prepare to be bested.

Quantro is a lot like Tetris, but it’s different. Rather than a measly game of Tetris where you have to simply line up a row of blocks, in Quantro, you’re playing two games at once: and the pieces are connected. You can also play with a friend, either over a local WiFi connection or over the internet.

If you’re looking for a fun puzzle game, Quantro is a uniquely different Tetris-style game that instead expands on the idea. It’s certainly quite challenging, and if you’re looking for a fun challenge to try, install Quantro today.

Pinterest

[11]There are few social networks more prolific than Pinterest. While the site itself may not have the level of usership as Facebook or even Google+, almost everyone has heard of the site, which allows you to “pin” pictures from the web onto your virtual pinboard to share them with friends. Now, Pinterest has gone mobile with apps for Android and iOS.

Find a cool recipe you want to share with friends? Pin a photo of it–that way, instead of a boring old link, your friends get to see a picture of a delicious brownie, cake, or other desert, and get a link to the instructions. (I’m hungry now.)

While the Pinterest app may not be interesting for people new to the network, it’s a great way to expand your interest for pinning photos to your phone. It allows you to create new pins from the web, view other’s pins, and also pin with your camera. If you’re looking for a way to bring your pinning mobile, it’s arrived.

Rune Keeper

[13]In Rune Keeper, you are the mystical Keeper of the Runes. Since times of yore, your family has kept the secret combinations of the runes, so that if any of the mighty rulers ever once needed their help, you would be able to offer it. Now, that time is come, and you must become: the Rune Keeper.

All joking aside, there’s really no backstory to Rune Keeper. It’s an extremely simple game. You slide the colored runes in the center through their ever-complicating paths to form the shapes shown in the top right corner. Be warned: it might get pretty tough pretty quickly.

Rune Keeper is an interesting little game, and while I might not go so far as to call it fun and entertaining, it certainly fills the category of yet another time waster. If you’re looking for a way to waste a bunch of time, Rune Keeper may hold you in and keep you.

Always use your best judgement when downloading apps, such as trying trial/free versions before purchasing paid apps, if applicable.
