Read and manage your RSS feeds with Live Reader [Windows 8]

Avid readers of the internet all know about RSS, the free and awesome way to read the latest posts from all of your favorite sites. However, if you’re a fan of the new Windows 8 style interface, there’s not many choices for RSS readers. Live Reader is one of them.

It’s honestly not a very good app. It’s impossible to remove the three default feed icons, meaning you’ll be constantly reminded to add new feeds and search for feeds. It also means that your other feeds are always second rate compared to the large settings icons.

It also does a number on the feed icons. Rather than cropping the pictures, it stretches them as much as it possibly can before displaying them. After you open the icons, it gets a little better. You’ll still have the stretched preview icons, but since they’re not logos, they’re much easier to look at. You can also view individual posts by clicking on any of the preview icons.

Overall, Live Reader has a bit of potential. It’s definitely a sign of apps to come for Windows 8: it’s of fairly average quality, and is overall not the most amazing app you’ll ever see. It’d also be nicer if it had Google Reader synchronization, for as it is right now it’s lacking many features and design decisions that would make a good RSS reader.
