Open apps faster with 7 Taskbar Numberer and built-in Windows shortcuts [Windows]

[1]Are you a fan of keyboard shortcuts? They’re a great tool for speeding up your workflow, but sometimes they can be a bit difficult to use. Windows 7 actually has some built-in shortcuts that open pinned apps, but since they’re not numbered, it can be difficult to remember what buttons to push. 7 Taskbar Numberer numbers them for you so you don’t have to resort to sticky notes.

7 Taskbar Numberer is simple enough to use. After downloading, you’ll need to extract it and select the proper version. They’re individually packaged for 32- and 64-bit computers [2]. Just select and start the proper one. Now look down at your taskbar: they’re numbered! Your system tray is also numbered. To start a numbered program, just use the keyboard shortcut Win+[Number].

There are a couple of things to note when using 7 Taskbar Numberer. Firstly, it’s only for convenience’s sake. It’s simply numbering the apps, nothing more. Windows has the shortcuts built-in. Secondly, it does not yet work on Windows 8. Lastly, it’s designed for providing hints to voice command users, meaning it numbers above the ninth app and numbers the system tray. While the keyboard shortcuts max out at Win+9, voice command software lets you open the 10th app, the 11th app, and however many apps you want. Voice command software also lets you open the system tray icons by number, something there is no keyboard shortcut for.

Overall, 7 Taskbar Numberer is a useful tool for memorizing app positions. It’s really not necessary after you’ve memorized your app positions, and since it has some superfluous numberings, you really shouldn’t rely on it for too long. For learning the numbers, though, it’s handy, and since it doesn’t require installation, it can wipe right off when you’re done.
