Tired of of junk mail and spam? Let Unlistr Pro unsubscribe you from mailing lists [iPhone]

[1]Unlistr Pro is a new utility that automatically unsubscribes you from those pesky mailing lists that spam your inbox. The app is very simple to use and works on almost all newsletters, retailer advertisements, and listservs. You simply add an email account (me, mac, hotmail, live, gmail, yahoo, rocketmail, and ymail supported) and press scan. Before scanning, though, it would be smart to set the preferences you want for Unlistr Pro. The app allows you to set the number of emails for it to scan (up to 1000 for pro) and also set the folders you want scanned in your email. This is a very important setting, because Unlistr Pro only scans your inbox by default. If you have a spam/junk folder full of unwanted emails, it would be wise to add that folder to the scan. It is smart that the app gives you this option to select folders, because there are many folders that you probably don’t need scanned which might lead to you unsubscribing from an important newsletter by mistake. Unlistr also smartly includes an ignored list, so that you don’t keep scanning the same newsletter emails that you actually want, which takes up your 1000 quota. After the scan, Unlistr Pro lists all of the senders that are recognized as possible subscriptions and allows you to individually choose the ones you want to unsubscribe from. This is important for the user to know, because nothing will happen unless you give the service the green light to do so.

The concept of this app could be a big money-maker for this developer, because everyone who has an email is annoyed by junk/spam mail that seems to find a way into your inbox. It is also worth noting that Unlistr Pro’s automatic unsubscription service sometimes doesn’t work for all subscriptions, but the app will always follow each “automatically subscribing” service with with the option to manually unsubscribe inside the app (which worked well). I also disliked the fact that this app was trying to access my Facebook account after scanning, but you just simply hit cancel to send that away. My guess is that the developer just wants to spread the word about his app, but chose the wrong way to do it. Don’t let this scare you away though. Try the free version, which scans only 50 messages, before buying the pro version.
