[Firefox] Quickly find a page you left behind with Tab History Menu

[1]Who hasn’t navigated a few clicks forward in a webpage and then wanted to quickly return to the fourth or fifth page back? Rather than clicking the “Back” button a number of times and hoping you remember how far back the page you wanted was, Firefox has an add-on solution.

Tab History Menu brings up a context menu when you left click on a focused tab that shows the history of pages for that tab. It doesn’t bring up the menu when switching between tabs, but if you click twice on the same tab (once to switch to it and then again), the menu will come up. It allows you to easily click on any page that you’ve previously loaded in that tab and go right back to it. The options for the add-on are simple – you have the option to hide the menu if SHIFT, CTRL, or ALT are pressed when you click on the tab. However, I agree with one of the reviewers on the download page who suggested that perhaps it would be better if the menu ONLY appeared when one of those keys was pressed.

I don’t know about you, but I double click out of habit a lot of the time – this can include when switching between tabs. And the last thing I want to do is bring up the menu when I’m just trying to change tabs, and then accidentally navigate back to a previous page. Another reviewer mentioned an issue where it wouldn’t show the correct history for the correct tab, but despite about ten minutes of playing with it with up to ten tabs open and all with their own histories, I couldn’t replicate that issue. So I have to assume that was another add-on that person had that was interfering with Tab History Menu.

Now at this point some of you may be thinking: “right-clicking on the back button does the same thing as Tab History Menu — why should I get this add-on?” It is true right-clicking on the back button does indeed bring up the recent pages opened in a particular tab. The point of this add-on is it puts that tab history in a more intuitive location — on the tab itself. Some people may like this while others may not. If you don’t like it, then don’t get this add-on. It is as simple as that.
