[Mac OS X] Keep track of stocks with Stock +

Stock + is an app that will give you a stock ticker right on your Mac. It is very useful if you have an extensive stock portfolio and have difficulty keeping track of everything. It is also incredibly useful if you are doing stock-related business and need to keep up with everything that is going on in the stock market.

What is it and what does it do

Main Functionality

Stock + is meant to be a simple and easy to understand stock ticker. It is supposed to do this in an unobtrusive manner so you don’t become easily distracted. It is geared to mesh perfectly with your productivity workflow.

Pros

  • Keep track of any stock’s movements
  • View visual graphs
  • Monitor indexes and commodities
  • Customizable, scrolling ticker tape
  • View graphs up to 5 years in the past

Cons

  • Can sometimes be confusing
  • Doesn’t always display DJIA properly

Discussion

Stock + is a very simple app that will properly display any stock you want. It will give you access to your entire portfolio of stocks. What’s great is that you can compile your own portfolio, and then only see information about the stocks you are following. This is great because it keeps you from having to use web-based services to keep track of everything separately  Stock + can serve as your one-stop shop for all of your stock information

Stock + will do more than just show you basic stock movements. It will show you beautiful graphs that can date back as far as 5 years. This is fantastic because it allows you to easily see how your stock has done over a long period of time. In addition, you can very easily monitor indexes, commodities, and funds as well as your stocks. This makes it incredibly easy to keep track of every single investment you have. This app also provides a great ticker tape. The tape is completely customizable, as you can change the speed, text color, scrolling direction, and symbol vs full name.

While this application is generally great, it can have some odd behavior at some times. For example, sometime the Dow Jones Industrial Average doesn’t even show up. Instead, there is just a blank spot where it should be. This is a simple bug but it occurs rather frequently. In addition, the interface itself can have quirky disappearances that can make the application really confusing at times.

Conclusion and download link

Stock + is truly a great application for keeping track of your stocks. It is very simple and will provide most of the information anyone needs to properly track stocks. It does so very elegantly and will stay out of your way when you don’t need it. While there are some minor bugs, it doesn’t keep this application from being great. This app is currently still in it’s infancy, so I will be very interested to see what future updates bring. With more features and corrected bugs, this application can easily become extremely popular.
