[Windows] Toolwiz Pretty Photo is a simple image editor for casual users

Popular image editors, though complicated programs, do provide a number of great features for editing image. While professional photographers or graphic designers find such programs to be very useful, there are not so great for casual users as casual users have to spend considerable time to learn how the program works. For those who are searching for an image editor that can make simple changes to your photograph, without requiring much time to learn the different features offered, Toolwiz Pretty Photo might be the answer.

WHAT IS IT AND WHAT DOES IT DO

Main Functionality

Toolwiz Pretty Photo is a portable image editor that is pretty simplistic in nature and allows you to quickly edit your photos. The program is for those who likely to edit their images using some of the frequently used functions from more complex image editors, such as Photoshop, without the need to study each function in detail.

Pros

  • Simple to use
  • Comes with a large selection of filters and effects
  • Provides frequently used functions from more complex image editors
  • Is portable

Cons

  • Does not provide the wide range of features seen in other image editors
  • Can export images only in bmp, jpeg, or png formats
  • Cannot edit images greater than 1024×768 resolution
  • Cannot adjust filter settings
  • Too few keyboard shortcuts makes for a frustrating experience

Discussion

Toolwiz Pretty Photo is a useful image editor for casual users who like to quickly edit or retouch their pictures and share the photos with their friends or use turn the photos into a cartoon. The program allows you to perform some of the frequently used functions in an image editor such as crop, rotate, resize, edit layers, blur, shadow, frame, etc. It also comes with a large selection of ‘fun’ effects, such as crowns, eyebrows, speech bubbles, glasses, mufflers, earrings, etc, which allows for a number of different “creative” possibilities.

Accessing the Art Filters screen from Image Filter menu at the top provides you with 55 different filter options to edit the image. However, there is no option to adjust the filter settings or preview how the setting affects the image, which means that you could have to go back and forth (trial and error) before selecting a satisfactory filter effect. Apart from the Art Filters, other customizable filter options include Emboss, Split Blur, Motion Blur, Pencil Sketch, Fill Light, AntiAlias, etc.

While simplicity is Toolwiz Pretty Photo’s biggest strength, it is also its weakness. More experienced users will find the program to be too limited compared to other image editors such as Photoshop or Lightroom. The program also does not accept images bigger than 1024×768 resolution and the output can be saved only in JPEG, BMP, or PNG formats (though the latter should not prove to be too much of a problem). Lack of keyboard shortcuts (no delete option) means that you will be spending a lot of time clicking your mouse to edit images in the way that you want.

Conclusion and Download Link

Toolwiz Pretty Photo can be a good perfect fit for those who like to have some fun with their images and are not looking for an image editor that is too complicated. Experienced users, however, are better off looking at other and more professional image editors as they would find Toolwiz Pretty Photo to be too limited.
