Posted By Brendan Lynch On November 7, 2012 @ 8:46 PM In Android | No Comments

[1]Snapchat is an app that will let you use pictures to communicate with your friends. This app is designed for people who don’t like text messaging or just prefer to send pictures to get their points across. It is also great for those looking to be more personal with their messaging.

What is it and what does it do

Main Functionality

Snapchat is designed to function exactly like a normal messaging service. It will behave just like text massaging but with pictures instead.

Pros

  • Send pictures in messaging-style
  • Set timers on sent pictures
  • Screenshot notification
  • Connect and collect points with your friends

Cons

  • Extremely buggy
  • Photo taking causes white screen

Discussion

[2]Snapchat is a very functional program that sets out to allow people to communicate in a unique way. Imagine having conversations with your friends only by using pictures. This form of communication can be much more entertaining and be much more personal than simple texting. Snapchat will log your pictures in a conversation-type interface so you can easily look back on previous conversations and relive moments.

However, if you for some reason don’t want somebody to be able to view your picture forever, then you can set a timer on the picture. If you set this timer, then the picture will disappears forever once the timer runs out. This will ensure that you can always have the privacy you desire without giving too much away for a long period of time. A great feature that goes along with this is screenshot notification. The app will actually alert you if somebody takes a screen shot of the picture you sent them. This will make it clearer if somebody is trying to use the picture you sent them for other things.

While this app is great in theory because you can collect points while connecting with your friends, it is plagued by terrible instability. This app is a port of an iPhone version, and as a result, is suffering terribly. Overall, the app is incredibly unstable and constantly force closes even when you’re attempting simple actions. Additionally, nearly every time you want to take a picture with your front-facing camera, you are presented with a white screen instead.

Conclusion and download link

While the idea for this app and the overall features are great, it really isn’t an app that you can use everyday. This is because of the terrible instability. It makes it incredibly frustrating and gives you a sense that the app was rushed or just isn’t finished. Once the app stables up however, then it has the potential to be a five-star app.
