If you can’t access Windows because it already crashed during the boot, you also cannot update the boot options. Use the the method described in the link above. Use the Windows Install DVD.

I read about the Shift+F8 but I’ve never successfully got into Safe Mode by using this way. I think it just worked in Windows 8 beta versions, not the final version.

Ok, I see that isn’t reliable, but if you keep rebooting it , you can eventually get to safe mode. I guess that’s enough.

Considering the alternative I could reboot the system 5 or 6 times to get my timing down, quicker than hunting down the “new” way for sure. Also I’m with k_h, if you can boot normally you likely don’t need safemode, it’s when a driver or something else locks the boot process that you really need it and it’s not available now without the system CD. Which is also funny because the CDROM is now a dying format that’s being phased out.

@k_h: You can boot into Safe Mode without bootable disk — Tu described the method above. However, if you cannot boot into Windows then you need the disk.

Like leaving out the start menu, seems very short-sighted ( IMO).
I’d prefer a few millisec longer startup time myself.

Yet another reason to re-consider an upgrade.
