Who says gaming industry is dead? Call of Duty: Black Ops II surpasses $1 billion sales in 15 days

Prior to Zynga going public and tanking, people hailed console (and related computer) gaming as dead and social gaming as the next big thing. Heck, at the time Zynga was even speculated to be worth more than Electronic Arts, a massive video game publisher. Now, however, after Zynga has fell flat on its face, people aren’t so confident that social gaming is the way to go. In fact, when one console game can pull in $1 billion of sales in 15 days…

Activision, the developer of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, has announced the game has surpassed $1 billion of worldwide sales in fifteen days. These are sales of the game across all major consoles (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Wii U) and on Windows PCs. Comparatively speaking, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 hit the $1 billion mark last year in 16 days and Avatar (the movie) hit $1 billion in 17 days in 2009.

In total, the Call of Duty franchise (all Call of Duty games’ sales combined) has grossed more sales than the Harry Potter movies and Star Wars movies.

…Yeah.
